The quest for the Holy Hemi.

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by 57 Fargo, Jun 28, 2025.

  1. We are embarking on a cross country journey as a family, a part of the trip is completing a trade with a friend. Looking forward to meeting him!

How a car guy packs for a cross country trip…

  3. Jim, I’m not a Ford guy, I put 8 3/4”s in everything, I have more desire for early hemis!

Puts a whole new twist on "Get your rearend in the car, and lets get going!!!".

  5. I’ve been absolutely terrible at updating this on our travels, seen some cool car stuff and are currently in Ontario. Currently travels about 4000 KM.

  6. Tonight we hung out with our own @Jeff Norwell, his hospitality was second to none, got to see his wicked ‘57 Fords in person. I was supposed to leave here with a 331 Hemi but due to circumstances far beyond his control that’s not happening, he can tell the story if he wants or we can leave it at that. The real reason I made the side trip here was to meet my friend Jeff!

Lane... it sure was nice to finally meet you and your wonderful Family.... Had a lot of fun hanging with you last night.... having dinner and the conversation.
Guys.. Lane is a true hard core gear head.
Unfortunately ..... the Hemi plan came to a bust......
The last year has been a very busy one..selling our home, downsizing, buying a much smaller home, building a shop in a very bad winter... dealing with a death in our family of my wife's sister, and having the birth of our first Grandchild.
At any rate.... I had the engine for Lane.a cherry 331 54 Chrysler... That and another 241 Hemi.
I had the Heavy Iron stored 9 months picked up by a good friends who agreed to store them and 2 complete FE engines as well.
Fast forward ..Lanes on his way.. awesome,... work was on full tilt and I called my pal about 4 days before Lane arrived.
2 days later he calls with bad news.... His son....(who he shares a shop with) trashed them in the middle of winter .

    I nearly vomited....
Losing 4 engines and 5 sets of Chrysler Heads for the Hemis.

I frantically called Lane and explained.
Anyhow.... We met,.. went out to dinner and had a few beers....
He is just an awesome guy.

Hopefully I can Hang out with him today again

Sad story, I’d be getting a new friend.

  11. Jeff’s main concern was he was letting me down, not a chance. Plus I get a true car guy some parts I will never use. Win!

  12. Had another great afternoon with Jeff and his wife, they welcomed us into their home like we have been friends forever. Couldn’t find nicer people!

It was obviously nicer at some point in the past but had a few neat things.

  15. The pink ‘59 Caddy was apparently belonged to Elvis, just like every other pink ‘59 Caddy.

My dad thru away a bunch of my stuff while I was stationed in Germany forty-five years ago. One very low mileage K-code 289, a complete 3.8 engine from an early XKE, chassis, engine, suspension, and the body tub for my MGTA, lots of irreplaceable things that were just junk to him. He needed space for his new motorhome.
I was pissed but I'd trade all that stuff for five more minutes with him.

  18. Alright, again no updates…

After our time with @Jeff Norwell and family we carried on to Antigonish Nova Scotia for the 160th annual Highland Games. Our 7 year old was highland dancing there, she danced the best she ever has! We hit every province except Newfoundland and British Columbia, drove about 13,000km total.

  19. Stopped in Elkhorn Manitoba at an awesome car museum. Some rare cars in the collection.
