I've had exhaust put on my car before and each time there was something wrong... I had exhaust put on my convert- crooked tail pipe and only half aluminized only I paid for full... exhaust on my shoebox and they ran screw hangers up into the floor of the car into the seat etc- just bad stuff... this post isnt about shitty exhaust though...

Clark Babler who owns West End Welding in Mound Mn, just down the road from Moriairty, who also happens to make PORTER mufflers, who's dad used to own/run the so-cal bellytank for almost a decade and other record breaking streamliners, who's a crazy perfectionist when it comes to symmetry, not to mention just all around SMART(ass) and NICE guy... put brand new dual's on the Ranchero.

THE DUDE USES A LEVEL... and has a good EYE.

All I'm sayin is... CLARK RULES.

Its perfect... sounds perfect... looks perfect...

its so nice and tight to the frame- no rattles... NOTHING.

but I forgot to snap a pic when it was up on the hoist we were in such a hurry to fire it up and hear it after we were done workin on it... I did take a few though----->

These mufflers weigh like 4 times as much as a smithy- and they have a spring that runs though the middle with stainless steel packing that give it its distinct sound... they're BURLY. I could do arm curls with em and get rockabilly-buff[tm]

It reminded me of plastic model car kit exhaust that you paint up and install...

Clark, his Rad wife Teresa and I went to the Minnetonka drive in Sat night and watched movies- A guy named RED rigged up a bed sheet and a projector and we watched HOT ROD (1979) and 2 LANE BLACK TOP. Rad.

Moriarity drove his Crosley powered TRIKE.

I drank a lot of rootbeer... but it wasnt MUNNS... frosty Mugg and all...

On my way home today I stopped by Bob Hollands with Mark and helped bob work on his 56 ford-

Bob asked what I was running for exhaust tipps... I told him I couldnt find any and that I wanted simple chrome pencil tips... He got a smile on his face and went to his secret storage shack and came back with a pair... He said HERE YA GO... and Moriarity was like what ya standin there for grab a screwdriver and get those SUCKERS ON THERE... hahaha... and now its almost complete.

I'm gonna run some custom made kickstands, fenton ribbed style lakes, or cut outs... but I'll ad that later... Mark was trying to talk me into Bellflowers...

Now it sounds like a new car...
    we fixed the speedo-
    replaced the rear pinion seal-
tightened up mounts and gave everything a once over...
    and man.
    MAN.

I had a lot of fun... Those guys over there in MOUND Mn. are all pretty damn cool. I met a lot of new people- one of them a new hamber whos got a BAD ASS 454 flat bottom boat he brought by the shop on Sat. I'm so bad with names its retarded... maybe he'll chime in.

Thanks guys for the great weekend.

    The Ranch sounds so smooth...
    Its like fresh laundry...

Its going back under the knife tonight until the Hunnert Car Pileup. I'm gonna get the back half painted for the show and we'll be vending there to boot...

I can't wait to drive to the Hunnert... I think that drive will be a great break in period for the steel packs... ear towards the window... windows down... long runs through the gears... downshifting... Bitchen...

I usually build my own exhaust systems. If i have any bends i take a trip to autozone for some elbows.

Awesome. Those folks at Porter are sure easy to deal with.
Looks like they did a great job getting the ChocoTaco (Tuck's Ranchero) all setup! Nice Tuck!

Red ran 2 Lane on Saturday? Dammit! I'm so lame.

It's not every day that you get to shake the hand of the man who MADE your mufflers is it? ;-)

i can feel your frustration, there's nothing worse than a shitty exhaust system, and unless you do it yourself, it's almost damn near impossible to find anyone who will take the time to do it right!! sounds good, and that's a damn cool trike!

    what a great sound,,,,,,WOW, ,
guess i'll be buyin a set of those, ,
as will a bunch of others after they hear that clip...

  20. Yeah, sounds really good! But inquiring minds NEED to know - what engine???

My '56 is getting close to having the exhaust installed, including the Porters I got a couple months ago for it. I posted a pic on the Porter club page.

That's a nice '56 in the pics too - another Yblock? Next summer might just mean a roadtrip to you'all's neck of the woods.

It used to have a 352FE but the guy I bought it from put a 302 in it- the first 302 I grenaded- this is #2 with a C4 and 3.70 gear rear (22mpg) (16mpg pulling kevins coupe on the trailer)... The number 3 engine is a 302 HO with an AOD. - I have it dressed up with cal-custom and chrome... I'm looking forward to the overdrive and extra horse...

If I had a 59 donar that was stick I would convert it to a column shift in a snap and run a 3 speed OD
    Automatics are boring to drive...

Sounds great Tuck! I am going to have to get a set on the Caddy for sure!

  27. The barking Taco. Sounds like a growling tiger.
Mound is a micro hot rodding universe hidden between a lake.
Clark and Teresa are great folks.

  28. They would go well with the new WW tires. :)

    Sounds good, Tuck!

A good, solid, well-installed exhaust system is such a great peace-of-mind....
