LOVED IT!!! But why do all the cars have paint on 'em, and how come they all aren't running in the Gasser class??? (G) Larry T
Even Richard Petty was there,,,I guess this was about the time he had the accident and a 8 year old boy was killed and several others were injured.HRP
Man do those pics bring back some fadded memories, I used to flag at a back wash drag strip in Indiana...what a place to view a hole shot from!...I miss yeasterday
Good Stuff!.........Um, where are all the tattooed, cuffed jean, pomade , rockabilly badboys? I didn't see one spike hub steering wheel or barbwire grille anywhere.
Thanks for the great link. My dad used to race in Roanoke, no pictures of his car though. Being from Virginia, this is a great site to check out early hotrod/racing related stuff in the state.
Thought it was just me as no one else mentioned it. Guess "back in the day" happened somewhere else. Frank
The photos were from 1964. Most of today's greasers are more infatuated with the late 50s. By the way, I'm tattooed, wear a pompadour and cuffed jeans. Have since about '85. Get over yourself. As for the barbed wire crap, I'm with ya on that one. Awesome photos!! I really love some of those old diggers! It's cool to see some of those full bodied Galaxies and Impalas running. I think that there weren't many injuries in those days because some of the fastest street cars were only pulling mid 14s at 100mph. Most were probably in the 15s or 16s, especially some of the shoebox Fords with Flatheads. Thanks for the post!
Awesome photos!! Even Rosco P. Coltrane looked okay in 1964. Didn't know Renault 4CV was sold in the USA
I wonder if any of these guys were into racing back in their day. I recall seeing photos of my uncle and his buddies (who all looked like this since the late 40s) posing by their various hot rods. Now....who's the poser? By the way, I've bookmarked that racing slide show. Awesome little slice of history!
