True genius and true artist.

 

The video is pretty bad but here is Ed "Big Daddy" Roth interviewing Von Dutch.

He did a hell of a lot more than draw lines and paint signs.
A craftsman in many ways, a true original in every way.

He and Jocko Johnson were a couple of my favorites from the day.

 

His early work is what I prefer, less busy.

By his own account he didn't like being a striper it was a job, that supported his and his real passions. That said I wasn't very old but I do remember Mr Howard being insane with a stripers brush more than once and he really didn't seem to be too awfully upset about it.

 

Unique and Talented Person!

 

The man was an original.I'd love to have one of the guns that he worked on.

 

I love the picture with the caption, "For roadster jockeys who really want to live it up..." in regards to Von Dutch's striping.

 

He definitely was a guy that did his own thing in his own time and didn't care what anyone thought about it.

Had the pleasure of meeting him at Lead East in New Jersey, before I got banned for life from that venue (another story for another day). A true rennisannce man, a gearhead latter day DaVinci.

 

Just a bit of trivia, Von Dutch's father created the logo for Western Exterminator, which is still being used by the company, today.

 

Von who?

 

As a past employee for Western Exterminator for 37 years and a car nut for longer ,I was pleasantly surprised when I found that out a few years back.

 

And, $5 an hour.

 

A true craftsman in many ways .

 

Look up the 1968 movie ''Angels from Hell''. It featured artwork by VonDutch. It's a wonderfully awful movie!!!
