Couple of knick knacks before this roof cutting party. The FlamedAbone Pretty Much Universal Steering Column Drop Kit. (tm)



The stock dash puts the speedo just a bit too far left to be centered with the steering wheel.



Not moving the column, so...



If you move the dash insert, then you have to move the glove box hole or the whole thing will be ass-eyed.



And, it's in there. Hard to take a good shot of a dash, so just imagine it looks pretty OK.



Speedo is now pretty close enough to dead nuts.



The old alternator bracket was bugging the shit out of me. I got it down nice and low, but I was going to have to run an electric fuel pump, which I am not a huge fan. So, I built another set up that allows the stock pump and the alternator to co-exist.



Up a bit higher than the old one but it misses the pump by a good bit.



Fortunately, that ugly bastard is pretty much covered by the fender apron.

Your fixes are far from ass eyed.

Looks like that lower rad hose is going to be a lot happier.

 

This is fixin to be an ass load of pictures and all of the "don't chop it" guys should turn back now.



Somewhere along the line, the roof got a fake soft top kit.



Held on by 76, 843 rivets.



Pretty decent roof opening underneath.



Last chance...spoiler alert...



Modern 2 inch tape doesn't measure 2 inches anymore, so you have toss in a little pinstripe tape or you might end up with a sissy chop rather than the 4 big ones.



There are lots of different ways to cut a 34 and lots of fancy ways to do the rear window, but I'm a bit of a caveman, so there you go, right through the middle.



Way better already.



There are a couple ways to do the quarter window and this is the point where you have to make a choice. For this chop, I lined up the very rearmost edge of the roof.



That method, like all the rest has some consequences. Now your B pillar doesn't line up.



But here is where the magic happens. Looks like a bold move, but it is actually pretty simple.




See, that wasn't that bad after all.



And that gets the rear section in its new forever home.



Here is one I didn't see coming. The stock roof had a pretty big gap between the A pilar and the door top, but when I lined up the roof forward and the door backwards, it made it ever bigger. Yikes!



Moved a chunk of the roof and added a bit to the leading edge of the door top and she's all better.



This style of chop leaves the roof body line a bit goofy.



Cut that sucker out and move it forward.



The rear window gets a bit buck toothed.



Same deal, cut out a skooch it over.




Some of you sharp eyed HAMBers noticed the passenger door was a '33.



Now identifies as a '34.



Tacks ground.



Finished 1/4 window.



Everything needs finish welding and a bit more metal work, but this is the general idea.



Done for the day.



3/4 front.



Everybody has their own opinion on what a chop should look like, but this one ended up about right for what I was going for.



Next up, garnish moldings.

Dan it is very handy that you popped into this thread. For those that don't know, our very own Lo C Dan is the baddest ass louver guy in the country. Fortunately, he is only an hour and change from me in Lexington SC. Look him up, he's a bad mofo and his louvers are perfect. His louvers are the only straight thing on the car.

Plenty solid chop right there! I really like them with the door windows reasonably parallel. When the tops and the bottoms of the windows start going at different angles to each other it kinda starts looking wonky to me. Nice job!

 

Nicely done! Not that its worth anything, for a 3W I love seeing the windscreen laid back, on 5W this way looks better to me. Excellent! Was worth the wait to see this done!

Beautiful! The chop looks suspiciously like the 554 Fuel Coupe's.
