I have been going thru a magazine collection I bought recently so I can get most of it ready to bring to sell. I have the 1st issue of super stock and about 50 others thru the 60s and early 70s. there is also Drag Racing magazine. There is also Hot Rods back to 52 and Car Crafts in the 60s and a ton more stuff.

    I can't wait.

This is the car Dixon crashed at Miami-Hollywood right? Wasn't this Ivo's last FED?

That was Tommy Ivo's second to last front engine dragster. The car shown in the background of the photo below was Ivo's last FED. It replaced the one in the foreground. The one shown in the foreground is what was to become Zot IV. Tommy sold the car to the Atlanta Speed Shop. He claimed in his recent biography written by Tom Cotter that the car had some serious handling problems that had to be resolved before the car could be safe. Tommy believed the handling problem led to the crash. Jetboatmama would have to elaborate on the matter regarding whether that issue was ever remedied or not, and what ultimately caused the crash.

Here's the photo taken from Tommy's recent fine biography "TV" TOMMY IVO, Drag Racing Master Showman, written by Tom Cotter.

He sold the roadster when we got married in 1959. He had 1 more quarter at GA Tech and I was in Radiation Tech training at Emory University. One person bought the engine and another bought the frame & body. Every Monday night we waited to hear them come up the steps to our apartment to make their installment payment. Talk about living on a shoestring - but we were as happy as 2 peas in a pod. I regret that he had to sell the car I didn't know he had sold it until after it was done. He always put his loved ones first.

Too bad he couldn't keep it, but I'm sure he thought it out and did the right thing. Family and friends come first, playthings second.

On another note, that really is a neat story! I'm going to figure out how you can tell more personal recollections on the HAMB. I know you have a lot information and great tales to relate, and there are many who would appreciate what you have to offer.

Got any old pics of that version of the Dixie Twister? Beautiful car. I'm wondering what wheels were on it in '70. All I have is the Chevy II.

Dave, I wondered the same thing. The only thing I've found so far is this photo after the car was sold.

Here's another photo some years later in another configuration.

However, you will notice some slight differences in the roof height at the windshield, as well as some differences in the chassis compared to the car now. Supposedly, the recent configuration is of the original car restored. I'd like to know how much of it is actually original parts.

I just read this on the Classic Funny Car Board. Some discussion suggested that the roof line was lowered later on. It would've made sense to raise it back to the original height of the original Dixie Twister.

Here are some more photos from that board ..........

The roof line sure looks better on the restored version. The gold wheels like on the Dee Simmons version work for me. I don't remember the front ends up that high, but it was a year or so later, '71, before I started going to the strip.

I think the body is not fitted as far down as it will actually go shown on the above photos of the car in the rough.

Also, Dave, I just found this on the georgiadragracing.com website. This is the car when Huston still had it. You can clearly see the rear wheel ............

It would be great to see those original wheels on the restored car.
