Man, I saw this in person at the roundup, and the detail was impeccable. I love the excess that is dripping off every part, any less anywhere, and it wouldn't work. I couldn't (or wouldn't) build it to that style or level, but I'm damn glad somebody did. All that said. I can't stand the seat. the way it sticks up over the back of the cab and how puffy it is, makes me think more la-z-boy than hot rod.
Gotta love the column shifter and dang, the amount of chrome must've cost the price of a small island in the Bahamas.
There are two major aspects of the truck that I do not understand or like. However, when I saw the car for the first time at the Grand National last year, it was super impressive. The build quality is excellent, that stance is right on, and I love the full caps.
I’ve seen a handful of roadsters in Don Montgomery books with the seat backs done like that, puffed over the top. Generally a very early photo. So while I get where it may have been pulled from it does seem off for the era. The style of construction of the seat also doesn’t really fit that reference. that being said pretty minor knit pick on such a rad hot rod
I'm not much of a hot rod guy, but I like this build a lot. It's hard to do what everyone else is doing, but better than everyone else is doing it.
Tastefully done. I love this thing. And juuuuust the right amount of Chrome... not too little, and not too little.
built to his taste. I like it, the Caddy engine is over the top, he must own a chrome plating shop! three speed column shift is cool touch.
I don't have the money to build something like this but if I did, the only thing I would do differently is the seat. Everything else is done to perfection.
That is an exceptionally well done HotRod. Just has a LOT of really cool touches - on all corners of it. I can't imagine the chrome bill in today's world . . . would be more than many spend on their whole car. Thanks Ryan, this was well worth seeing!
I'm with you . . . they have always looked like "Crab Eyes" to me, but they sort of work on this car. Also, it isn't my car so my opinion is completely without merit.
I suspect a rich kid of the 50s would have opted for red and white tuck n roll interior. But that’s just a guess. Personally I like it just as it is. Amazing build.
