    Hello,

The water tower in south Seal Beach (Surfside) that stood out for miles on those long coastal cruise days turned into a 360 degree view home. It certainly is interesting that it pops up on the horizon from miles away. It sold for 1.5 million just a few weeks ago. As you drive over the tall bridge leading into the Huntington Harbor waterways on one side and the Navy Ammo loading harbor on the other, this view of the tall water tower is unmistakable. This is all part of the cool coastal cruise from Long Beach down to Laguna Beach and southward to San Diego on coastal route 1.

A fair number of "multi-taskers" here - driving and taking photos at the same time...
    Me included.
A few years ago on a September weekend drive through western Minnesota farm country:

That black dot in the middle of the first photo is actually a Model "A" sedan that was ahead of me. Here we are rolling along Hwy 104 north of Sunburg MN:

Cool thread. These weekend road trips are fun, should do more of them.

    Hello,
The road is still much the same, but the traffic is a lot heavier. The sights are still there from this point on down south to San Diego. To most of So Cal coastal cruisers, this is the beginning of the long Coastal Route 1 south with the best views, cool eateries on the cliffs, and stuff. Ocean views on one side, rolling hills, lagoons and homes on the other. For the surfers out there, the jetty brings some great surf during a certain swell that makes wonderful fast rides. For the military oriented, watching the cranes load missles and stuff on the boats is a little daunting. upload_2016-9-3_7-51-8.png
Starting in Seal Beach after the annual car show that lines the streets or the upcoming Long Beach, Belmont Shore Car Show on a blocked off 2nd Street, would make a great starting point for the coastal drive. For So Cal cruisers, this drive on any kind of weather is great, even on those gloomy overcast days. But the drive of ..."having fun in the warm California sun"(The Rivieras) makes it all worth while.

I had the same view driving across western Nebraska last week. I learned that I might as well slow down. Trying to make time at 75 mph + doesn't pay when I have to stop at every (and I mean EVERY) gas station to clean the windshield. Honey bees make a mess that windshield washers can't cut. At 60-65 mph, most of them must be able to steer around or get blown clear of the windscreen.
