From Saturday taking my daughter to drivers education cl***. Teacher asked if anyone drove a car older than 2000 at the parent meeting... One of us raised our hand.

 

Crossing the mountain range from West coast to the East coast ,in our 37 coupe which we have owned since 1985.

 

An old car/open top cruising compared to surrounding cars, there is no comparison!

My wife and I were on our way to see our granddaughter and were talking in the car, as usual. Our topics range from memories to the latest family business to hot rods we just saw, last week in our coastal road trips.

Just then, I thought I saw a cool convertible out of the side of my eye, hidden between several cars. It was hard to listen to the conversation and separate the old convertible from the others. So, after the conversation ended, I got my digital camera out, it was set up on infinity focus, and pushed movie, instead of photos.

Here is a short film of happy old convertible owners, cruising down toward the beach a****st other non-descript vehicles. It stood out quite well for these old eyes. As my wife saw that it was a convertible, of course, she instantly liked it. The black Cadillac convertible was between other cars, but had the cl*** and styling that made it stand out.

Since my wife has been a convertible person for most of her life starting back in 1950’s So Cal (in her mom’s 1947 Buick Convertible), she has always appreciated the cool styling of any old convertible. Plus, it showed the two older folks enjoying the fruits of their labor of love...

This is my granddaughter at 15 going down the track in a "big car" for the first time. We made 4 p***es with me riding shotgun.

 

Took a quick therapy spin in my old truck this morning. As I went by a tractor repair shop in St. James, MO., this old farm wagon base caught my eye. Check out the axles. I have seen partial frames and front or rear axles under portable signs also.

 

Yesterday, part of the WI HR100.

 

Took the sedan to the grocery store today.

1962-64 Pontiac era

Ever since those hot days of 1960-64, my friend’s 57 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop was one heck of a hot rod cruising sedan. It had the most done to the motor and ch***is of any of our Chevy sedans. His final step was to get an all white tuck and roll upholstery, like several of our friends, down in Baja. We had gone with the other Chevy sedans down South to get the less expensive all custom tuck and roll, so we knew the process.

But, as nice as his white 57 Chevy Bel Air was and my 58 black Impala fit the bill as far as teenage hot rods, when it was the middle of summer and we were still trying to cruise around, we certainly wished for an A/C car. His mom and dad had a new 1962 Pontiac 4 door Bonneville Hardtop Sedan as their family car. The whole family was tall and this giant sedan fit quite well.

On those very hot days, we usually lowered all of the windows and opened the vents on our Chevy sedans. That was the cheap version of air conditioning. But, we opted for no A/C on our cars as we knew it robbed horsepower when needed.

It was a cruiser if there ever was a large comfy rolling, cold vehicle. The A/C was the most important thing and we withstood the comments from others at the local drive-in restaurant parking lot gatherings. “Out with mommy’s car, again?” “The 57 not as reliable?” “What a barge of a car…etc” We just smiled, ate our hamburgers/gravy fries combo and flipped them off. We were in comfort, cruising around and they were not, so it all evened out as to how much anyone could give or take. We took in all in cold comfort.

But, as nice as the 4 door hardtop Pontiac was, my friend tried to convince his parents to get a two door version for their family car, and preferably in black. My friend loved the black paint on my 58 Impala and helped maintain it when necessary. But his version of a Pontiac sedan was this similar looking one sitting on the side of the road.

It did not matter if it were a stick shift or not, as long as it had A/C. His parents would not like a stick shift car, anyway. But, the room inside of that large Pontiac was perfect for “double dating” scene, that was very popular as teens.

 

The use of the SW Greenlines is a nice touch in the 56.
