@stubbsrodandcustom great shots. That first building looks like it could be a great man cave with parking and shop below, living quarters above. It's a shame that between disrepair and lack of local economy, places like this are not viable for most.

had to go for a drive today, it was convertible weather, and I didn't have anything that needed to get done.

And after I got home, I washed the car!

Finally got out for a drive today, first of the year. Passed this guy in a field off an otherwise boring bit of road between farms. Out the side window:

He was sitting on something, and moved it further away.

    Hello,

One day I was out and about. I had a couple of hours to play around in Northern Coastal Orange County. I had not been in the area for about 10 months. We used to surf down the street at the Huntington Beach Pier and the Newport Beach Jetties area. This location was a couple of miles inland, but still in the area. My wife was visiting a friend and they were having a nice conversation, since they had not seen each other for many years. Women, together, old days, plenty of conversations galore… !!! ha!

But, I knew of several old shops in the general area and I drove by to see what was still around. Much to my surprise, there were a few photo ops and this one was a good one. Right up @anthony myrick and his mechanical skills… Several of the old surfboard manufacturing businesses were once popular, but the locations were now taken up by some other enterprises.

Through my windshield, I spotted a couple of old cars/trucks. One was in need of work and the other looked drivable. They were outside in a public space, so the Cad hardtop may have been lowered to the ground for security sakes.

These old cars fit right into the time line of us being teenagers and early 20 somethings. Talk about being able to stand up and change clothes at a camp site. It was always an outdoor clothes changing situation with our station wagons, El Caminos and sedan delivery hot rods. Perhaps, a stand up stall shower could be incorporated into the tall corner spaces of the big van. Now, that would be very nice.

So, the big van would have allowed us to stay for weeks along the Southern Baja Mexico shorelines when it was safe back in those times. Today, it is questionable for sure. Perhaps a “Sherman Tank” is more suited for southern forays along the coast… YRMV

20250217_043008.jpg 20250216_154406.jpg 20250217_065308.jpg It's 6 degrees out, 4:30am, car loaded with the essentials (Orange Citrus Kickstart, Donettes, core for exchange), and you start the 800 mile, 11 hour round trip from Chicago, IL to Dayton, OH to pick up the new tranny. Best part of the trip? That magic moment in any pre-dawn road trip when the sun just starts to break over the horizon. Always makes me feel good. Like the Nav screen says "Let's go..."!
