The Road through your Windshield...

Working on my friends piece of junk yesterday was getting to me, so I walked away and jumped in the ‘55, with no particular destination in mind. Went exactly 99 miles. My windshield smashed many bugs during my therapy session.

Heading him from KKOA through the flint hills of Kansas. I realized two things on this trip: 1. Ive put over 1000 miles on this car in the past few months, and 2. My odometer is definitely getting sticky and less accurate the higher it climbs.

 

Oil pressure?

 

Not hooked up yet. I took this when I left the upholstery shop with the new top and interior. Still need to get all the wiring sorted.

 

I posted this over in the hot rod truck thread so this will be a repeat for some of you.

This is a pic of Steve Osborn (weeds on here; RIP) on our way to the first R&C Americruise in 1993. He and his son Jack were in his '29 roadster pickup and the skies had opened up fully. The RPU was fenderless and *******. We were somewhere south of Kansas City heading to Springfield, MO. I was behind them in Clarence and took this with a 35mm Nikon. Then recently I took a pic of that print with my phone and that's what is on here. Steve said what a lot of roadster pilots say; "the faster you go the drier you stay." We were probably running in the low 80's when I snapped this pic.

Crossing the Mackinaw bridge from upper to lower Michigan almost 5 miles long

 

Grrr. At least I’m in a hot rod. A guy in a Tesla pulled along side, rolled his window down, and said he just wanted to hear what a real gasoline engine sounded like.

Did the bridge walk ages ago. I think it was a national holiday event.

 

Desolate place, but still glad to have stopped at a boardwalk to see dinosaur remains.

 

Wall Drug Store , coffee 1 cent

 

Wall Drug was an interesting place. They try to convince you that about 100 individual little shops are all somehow one big store. You pay for everything you pick up in each section, and each receipt has a different store name on it.

The place is good place to get out of the weather for an hour or two.
