So now, in my best Paul Harvey voice, "And now , the rest of the story "
We made three good runs the first day out. 153 + being our best speed. Still running great !!?? Next day back in line to run. We are going to wind it to 4500 RPM this time. We push off, everything seems fine at first, but it does not seem to be winding up like it should. Barely going past 3500 RPM. An experienced driver probably would have shut it down, but I keep going. Between the 2 & the 3 mile, a little boom and a puff of smoke :( . Didnt seem like it blew apart, but not sounding good ! Shut it off , and coast around to the return road. I get out of the car, and am greeted by a big puddle of oil, WTF, %#$%#%^#@:( I let the patrol guy know there could be some oil or who knows what out on the track. Let's get this car out of here before the EPA show's up !

<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5; COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Only one rear main insert on a GMC is drilled for oil. I don't know why. All the rest (3) both inserts are drilled. But only one rear insert. Put it in upside down, no oil to rear main or #6 rod. Result looks just like this motor. Most GMC racers find this out the hard way.

sorry the motor blew. What an awesome ride. I sure could use the head off that motor if you have another in the works.

Really neat story! Sorry about the short term ending. I really enjoyed reading about your journey to the salt and the experience. I'm sure myself and a lot of other people can't wait for the next chapter. Subscribed!

That's Ray Feoresis' (sp) old coupe/roadster isn't It? I thought it looked familiar. Good Luck...

What a great story this is. I don't know how I missed it first time around.

Any plans for El Mirage ..... I'll be there in June, and would love to see and hear it run.

So Bonneville is right around the corner and we are behind schedule as usual. We wanted to paint the car this year while the new blown alcohol GMC motor was being built. Well, the motor deal came to a grinding halt about May of this year with the shop that had the motor. Long story, but the bottom line was the motor project was dropped in my lap . So while the car is in a million pieces being painted in the shop, now I am building a race motor in the same space. so this is what it looked like about 3 weeks ago !

So in the motor department, we recieved a rebuilt 302 GMC engine from Batto Fruit Co. The largest supplier of military surplus in the Vineburg - Schellville area. This motor was rebuilt by the army in 1973 and stored in a crate since.
