Kool story and GREAT find. People just dream about this and you found it. Good luck with it Bobbleed!!!!Bruce.
So awesome, Bob... great little roadster! Looks like someone did a nice job with the '40 dash install, too. See you in Austin.
Man; that's one spiffy lookn' A bone! Sure is funny that a Covico steering wheel ,from about 1963 looks almost to modern for the rest of the car! Real nice proportion on her, neat piece. Congrats on the score.
I was going to ask the same thing. Hell, a photo of the car entombed would probably make the car worth more if/when you sell it. Any chance you can track down the "Uncle" and find out some more history? Good to see you back. Man, what a survivor! I wouldn't clean anything except the windshield. I'd leave the grime and flaky firewall paint, etc as is and drive it, drive it, drive it. Dig the shift handle and 2 spoke steering wheel.
Just curios, are you going for; four tires, four brake hoses and wheelcylindres, one MC, one battery and a quick wash? Or option two: Option one, plus two era perfect aged seats and a coat of primer? Because that paintjob needs a little something of something else (in Winnie the Pooh voice), but goddamn that's a nice looking hot rod!! What gearbox and rearend? More pics, please.
A coat of primer so it looks like every other "rat rod" out there...? Don't do that please. Leave it as is or completely repaint it nicely.
I know this may be a silly question; When does cleaning, repair rot and adding primer make it a rat rod? And when did rust and mismatch paint/primer became the thing that defines a proper rod? Just curious, not re-inventing drama here. EDIT @Model A Fan I just saw you wrote "or completely repaint it nicely". I would fix broken, pull it outside and apply BELCOM and desite color after I've fixed broken, not changing car. I'm NOT a "as found"-guy, I'm a "as hidden"-guy
Jeff, Make that three of us Bobs with roadsters in the basement threads. Bob P. S. Bob, I love your roadster (both of yours), I'm sure you will do it justice.
Hey thanks guys been working crazy hours getting this thing running and driving! Drove it on the street today!
I don't think I've ever seen an early Ford with the later cross steering box, wonder why that is? Bob
Man, that is a great story and an even better looking car. I love that you preserved it to it's former glory. You are the King! Not only for getting it, but for what you've done with it. Post a video of you driving it, or at least it just running!
just amazing Bob! good to see you back posting especially for us guys who don't do the modern net stuff.
Unreal. I love it more every time I look. Any way to post some detail pics of the front end setup? I'm seriously considering doing a spring in front setup on mine.
@bobbled that one has got it in spades man. Hey on a side not you didn't notice if the wheel has any markings on it? I don't know that I have ever seen a 2 spoke wheel like that one.
