Thanks! Im still trying to work my way from the back to front, but after a bit I wonder off and do something else to change up the pace. Next I need to do the rain rails in the trunk, which is gonna ****, Im either gonna have to get more metal and a shrinker stretcher or nut up 200 bucks for a new pair, not to excited about this but gotta do it

  4. Buy the shrinker stretcher! You'll never regret it. Nice project.

Buy yourself a "GOOD" shrinker/stretcher it'll last a lifetime and you'll learn a new skill as well.

That exhaust looks great, but I'm betting on a blown tire with all of that heat dumping on the tire.

Haven't got much done on the coupe lately, waiting for some new wheel wells to come in. Been doing more and more research on hopping up my little 4 cylinder flathead. Ive learn that nothing in hot rodding is cheap but damn. I may end up dropping this pretty fresh 239 y block in my coupe, Ive considered it before but a little more now

    Nick,
Before you drop a 239 y-block in your coupe, measure everything. After trying to do limited damage to the firewall, then cutting it to set in a 292, finally moved the front x-member forward 2 1/2" to make it fit and still need to modify the firewall a bit. Not much out there for a 239" y-block. See if you can sell it to a restorer and get something else.

its a tight fit for sure, but the (boiling brothers) or however its spelled was able to put on in a truck they did without much mods. and the plus on this 239 is its been rebuilt not too terribly many miles ago, and it came out of my brothers 54 that was his daily driver. it isnt a power house but was very dependable and with that t5 it ran out great

So I landed this 32 axle and bones from my good friend along with some other 32 stuff, I traded some spare Triump stuff for it. These bones are so nice, felt bad splitting them.

The drag links are some I made on the lathe, I dig them. simple and cl***y.

Nothing fancy here but I wanted to keep the firewall stock looking as possible. I had a nice half, and missing the lower half, I found the other half my bud Charlie had it and I got a steal on it. So I welded it all back together stock and then cut it up. this thing is a million pieces and lined up surprisingly well, just going to take some filler to make look decent. But I have plenty of clearance and still running the lap bomb fuel tank! I will put the six bolts in the fire wall to make it look like the dash tunnel is in., but the sides of the firewall is welded to the cowl and the top bolted to the tank so I an be removed if need be.

So my steering shaft took some thinking to figure out but I got done, don't currently have any pictures. Anyways I used the original model A column drop but it didn't support everything enough so I mounted a 40 column drop to help stiff things up and it did. The steering box/shaft/column is all out of a 57/60 F100. But I used the 40 column drop, and 40 bell, and steering wheel to make it look, well pretty much like a 40. If you look in the top picture at the ends of the dash you can see where I turned out some threaded bungs to mount the dash. It was the easiest and cleanest way I could come up with and utilized the original dash holes. Last but not least you can kind of see what I did with the dash insert. Again I wanted it to look like it had a tunnel. So I made two more welded bungs and screwed that on and will use a hole saw to make the to make holes for my gauges. I was going to put the bolts come in from the back but then Id have to remove the dash to dropped the gauges. Plus the 2 stainless pan heads don't look bad.

Well my trunk is kind of a cluster but you can see why. I do a lot of swap meets and camping and want to be able to haul a small camper behind my hot rod to these events instead of hauling my hot rod. So I know some people are going to look at this hitch and question things, like leverage issues. when I first built this I had some major leverage problems, it just bent in the cross member when under a load, which would eventually crack then break. To solve that right where my hitch is attached to the cross member the same 3/16 2x2 is in the cross member connecting front to back. I was able to feel in the ends also since the car sits pretty high, I have tested the hitch under a load and have no issues now. The whole frame moves with the hitch! And now you can see how my bumper is mounted also.

Ive gotten part of my floor done, just flat but thick with some bracing. So my dad owns a welding and machine shop but we don't have any sheet metal tools, but we have some monster tools. And since I stay pretty broke from the rest of the build all my metal is free stuff I get from behind the shear, so free is for me. When I decided to run a V8 is was going to be a 239 Y block, but wanted a 312 and kept a eye out. Finally had a local friend here give me a 312, had it cleaned and checked for cracks and its good! Trying to keep in dry and clean currently while I use a 292 for mock up.

    40 wheels.jpg

So I had planned on for the longest time to run spun aluminum caps but recently decided against it. With so much 40 Ford stuff on the car including the front wheels, I thought about getting a set of standard 40 caps, and within a very short period of time I was about to acquire these super nice ones from a friend that collects hub caps. These are pretty dang nice and most importantly original. I've taken them back off and put them away in a safer place so they don't get beat up while completing the car.

Nice build and a great story regarding the car's history.
