This morning I stopped by DMV and changed the ***le and got my plates. I know here in Iowa its a lot easier to register our hot rods than other states. Tnomoldw - I have on the list: replace the 6 with a 350 and 700R4 which I already have. New Fatman IFS with ridetech shockwaves with Accuair system New Currie 9" with shockwaves and four bar Shave the handles, French the lights front and rear, the top chop I'm thinking on that one. I was removing the stainless and there are very few dents and all came off clean. Started to take of the fabric and the old foam, just getting started now.
That's cool . I had a 53 I bought in 1957= $1095.oo . I cut mine up . Channeled it .I had the frame completed, painted Rustolium Baby Blue. I was intending to section it . I had a freshen Pontiac V-8 mounted in it with a new bell, clutch & pp . with a Packard OD trany,a 50 Ford rearend. I had the OD tricked electrically to get 6 speeds out of it. It was a very simple set up. Just a pull cable and the electric box wired with a toggle switch. I haven't seen anyone on the HAMB do that. Had to lose it like you did . But I had Just got my 40 Hudson coupe which came from the owner with a Packard floor shift trany .So rented a garage near my Dad's shop, and the Pontiac /Packard .I put in it . I drove it as a daily driver for 9 years .It was a fun car. 3300 lbs. It was 60 lbs. heavy on the front of being 50/50. It would have made a cool g***er. Pontiacs were torque engines and as simple as any to work on. No many realize the Pontiac V-8 was being tested /track driven in 1952. But it was withheld from production.GM feared it would hurt Buick sales. Keep us up dated with lots of pictures.
Well the fun has begun. Started striping the interior and getting the old fabric off the seats. Man they love the hog rings. I must have taken 50 just off the back of one side of the front seat. But for some small areas the springs are still bright and no rust. I will be doing some clean up and setting them aside for now as they will not be needed for awhile. There are some small rust stops needing attention but the floors are very solid. The rear wheel wells will need more work than a patch so it will be rebuild time.
I have not posted any updates on the forum as it is pretty much parts hunting and standard body work. Patch panels, door handles gone, French in the headlights, more 53 grille teeth, scored a great set of gauges from a follow HAMBer, off the bay I got 4-57 caddy hubcaps from the caddy's original owner and he still had them in the garage in a box. I have been taking pictures and will revive the post once I am about ready to put the body back on the frame. I do not want the thread to end without completion. The top is still original with a very high change of loosing 3 inches and a complete different rear window. Keep the torches lit!
