I never hated the green roof but I wouldn't have chosen it either. I knew before my thumb touched the comment link that La Jolla was gonna be near the top. Frankly I never liked the grille in Harry's masterpiece, but the rest is so fine I have to be ok with it. I have an odd out of print magazine that features it and includes his design sketches. If nobody beats me to it before this afternoon I'll share the images.

So what would I have done to the Earnst besides green? Root beer. Not deep dark root beer, fresh and almost aglow with pearl vs flake. But hey, they didn't build it for me.

Quick edit; somebody correct me here. I was raised with the ideal that a Cadillac "Sombrero" is those as seen on a 47-8 Caddy, not the later and flatter early 50s design. To me those look like cymbals, nothing resembling a sombrero. Feel free to explain, amd thanks...

I think it is cool that there is the original car and a second version.

Like each version of that car, always have. I also will make a comment for those that do not like continental kits. If the best Chevy custom in the world has one then they ain’t too bad

My mind was blown the first time I saw this car. If I think of early 50s Chevys it always goes back to this one. The tri-color paint laid out the way it is and the subtlely contrasting colors really made me take notice! I have always wanted to attempt a tri-color car because of it.

I argued with a guy years ago that an owner didn't have to be a builder, and my example was the Ernst kustom. He said there's no way a Catholic priest would be into kustoms. I hope he reads the HAMB.

everybody knows this car, but how many of you know who built it for Harry? Herb Gary from NY. He rivaled any of the west coast builders.

The way some guys on here feel about g***ers, is the way I feel about tail draggers.
