Evinrude made a 3.6 liter 2-Stroke V8 for outboard motors in the late 80's and Early 90's. Very compact by nature. The motor held outboard powered top speed records up until the past few years. I know at least one ended up in a Volvo Drag Car. All extra space was taken up by the expansion chamber pipes. Not sure if it would be smaller than V8-60 though.

The Evinrude at least was made in the USA. It works out to 220 cu in., and most likely makes a lot more power than a V8-60.
From a bit of internet reading it appears that this engine was even increased to a 244 cu in. capacity.

Kinda off the path of the thread. Didn't see many boat motors come factory in cars, possible exception would be the Taurus SVO, but seen a lot of car motors in boats....

The Ford SHO V8 you refer to was designed for sure and, I believe, built by Yamaha. Sort of like the same era Corvette ZL 1 (or ZR 1 ...always get that confused) was built by Outboard Marine Corporation for Chevrolet/GM.

But you are correct that it would be a good contender in this thread, in all categories, overall size, weight and performance. Good call!

if your not dead set on a v-8 the G M 60 deg v-6 is tiny and can make good power. i believe largest displacement was 3.4 ltr
