haha no, I cant work THAT fast. but once I get the current PROJECT off my table, I can start on THIS project, with the goal of GATR25!
What's this? An update on the speed coupe thread? don't get to excited, its just a parts gathering post. Namely, I picked up this chrome GM 3 speed thanks to @travisfromkansas and boy, does it look cool. so, that obviously needs to go in the speed coupe. I'm thinking.... I've always been a fan of no dash race cars that put gauges directly into the firewall. I'm thinking it will end up with removable panels that are either chrome steel, polished stainless or polished aluminum. that got me thinking about a chrome set of pedals. . . a quick look found these! They sure look like Ansen pedals to me. cant wait to get them here and mock some stuff up. but I gotta get some work done on other projects first. . Back to the grind! .
I will not argue that Rjays makes a really nice (probably way stronger) product. but have you seen an original ansen? they aren't strong, they are kinda gangly, and they look just like the one I posted. So, I mean on a different car I would probably use an rjays setup, but I was looking for a certain look with this. and, I mean, shitty chrome always wins.
I've been seeing photos of this project on Instagram for a few years now, glad to find the build thread to follow.
well, I picked up the trans this weekend Indy tires for a different project. but the trans is so cool. If you know anything about these old GM trans, lemme know. but in the meantime. just look at it. So now I guess I'm a chrome guy now. as @Austin kays told me, I need to up the quality of the rest of the car now. shit. you aren't reading the words anymore, your still looking at the trans right? me too. .
You mean, like what it fits? Looks like the 55-57 Chevy car setup, with that bellhousing, and no mount provision on the tailhousing. If you want to see what year it is, look for casting dates. Letter, then two to four numbers, such as A 12 6 would be Jan 12th, 1956 it's beautiful enough to put in the living room, if you don't get around to putting it in a car with no floor.
I'd be careful about a lot of power through that. I have essentially the same transmission from 1963 that was fragged by a stock 250 ci six lol. Nothing exploded or anything but all the teeth are worn wonky and every bearing is sloppy. Bad enough even engine off you couldn't manually shift between first and reverse
I started out with Anson pedal assy in '69 from Uncle Don's for $24.95, sorta evolved over the years....
thanks for the info guys! @squirrel , where would that number be? I know there's much better options for trans, but if you have a chrome trans.... you gotta use it. and I agree that it would make a killer coffee table piece, but my wife would have differing thoughts on it...
Just make sure you open it up and make it sure it’s good and tight before you run it instead of putting oil in it and see what happens lol.
Now that I know that you are going all gold (or chrome)-chainer on us...I have a stock 37-40 chrome axle that you might need? I can't remember what front suspension you have under it.
I don't remember where the casting date codes are. I didn't see them in your pictures. Look over all the parts, see what you can find. I think the bell housing numbers require taking the transmission off to see them
I can find the location on my 63 version and relay the location. Another warning on that trans. Non synchro first. So don't downshift to first unless stopped
But with a light car and a big engine, you don't need to downshift to first, unless you stop. Oh...and you can downshift to first if you practice double clutching.
Saw your IG posts and wondered which of your many projects would be the home for it. Killer score man.
