Lately I’ve been thinking “What draws me to HAMB ?” The short answer is the HAMB spirit. What is the HAMB spirit ? HAMB is a fellowship of hot riders and customizer s and much more. This fellowship supports members with Hot Rodding and Customizing concerns as well as general life happenings. When a fellow passes this life into the great unknown HAMBers send condolences and support. Same goes with health issues. People support each other with technical knowledge at a level that is absolutely profound. This group is very supportive during a build maybe enjoying it as much or more than the builder. I’ve made friends, people have mentored and guided me ,the list is big. I am honored to be accepted into this group of great humans.

Lately some bad things have happened: The Roth door, internet scams and an assault on a Hot Rodding Icon I know my blood pressure goes up with these type of activities along with many others. Often times we get a little carried away with our rhetoric- that’s human- with that being said I know this group has my back so to speak.

Many very moving and positive things happen on HAMB posts. Today Larry34 posted a thread about an immigrant who Larry is going take on a ride in his 34 how cool.

All this is the Spirit of HAMB.

Thank you to: Ryan and all the moderators for allowing us hoodlums to participate in this thing called HAMB, gotta be a tough job keeping this group of Knuckleheads in line

    Thanks
    Dan

Larry's post touched my heart, too. Just the unbridled enthusiasm of the young man and Larry's willingness to help fulfill a little bit of the guy's dream.

I had some overseas visitors from China who were told all these old cars were "Hollywood Movie Props" and didn't actually exist.
So I took them for a ride in our '57 [and most importantly ,Take photos of them as proof]

Sometimes we need to "pay it Forward" [ And also appreciate that we actually had a privileged upbringing]

  8. I've said it time and again, sure, it's about the cars, that's what brings us together initially, but it's really about the people. Well said @Sharpone .

I have been a member of the HAMB Uviverse for only a few years now.
This great web site is a wonderful way to associate and communicate with fellow hot rodders and some truly gifted people, that are fine examples, of mechanical automotive experience.
And are willing to share that with everyone!
    I really appreciate that!
    Thanks from
    Dennis.

Truth Dan, For me it has always been about cars and car guys.
I was raised in a gas station.
Always paid attention to the guys that were more advanced in this motion machine game.
My knowledge came from discussions, from 7AM 'til 11PM and beyond.
As family life brought me into the house the sessions became less.
Repairs were made to the house. The knowledge gained, lots of it, brought me to conclude,
I don't like working on houses.
Later I came to realize that driving is more fun than wrenching.
So travel was the plan. During that spell I discovered The H.A.M.B.
Now a chance to be young again through this discussion board.
Of course learn from and admire the guys who have done way more than I'll ever get around to.
My main deal was keeping them running to get back home.
The term "car guy" to me always meant knowledge and trust were first.
When you made deal on a car, the handshake sealed it.
    Thank You Dan Sharpone

I know you guys wanna hang out with me.
    I understand.
Just don't be clamoring for my attention all at once.
    You'll all have your turn.
    That's okay. You're welcome.

To go along with this, I have often commented how this place is where I have met most of my best friends in life. Heck, my car club started because a group of like-minded guys met here. Even this week, because of this place, @firstinsteele contacted me and wanted to stop by since he was in my neighborhood. I took this pic of Ben in front of his Buick because I learned quite a while back that the people are what is really important and I don’t want only car pics down the road.

As some of you guys may have followed along, I met fellow hot rodders in Australia because of this place. That is why I hang out here. Don’t mean to sound all sappy and such, but I don’t know of a better group of folks in the world than I have met here.

Some Aussie HAMBers I was able to meet in person late last year.

Pretty sure I could go on and on about the people here, but also have to remember this place is about hot rods and customs. ;):D

If I was the last man on Earth and I could have any car I wanted, it'd be no good.
    Cuz I couldn't share it.

Oh, maybe for a day or two.

  16. Great place to trade ideas and harvest a wealth of knowledge from the comfort of wherever you are at. Plus lots of pictures of really, really well executed cars, thank you.

    Herding cats.
I find as I get older I've run out of Fs to give. Most people IRL are a distraction or annoyance. It helps that here I can avoid the stuff that falls into those categories by simply not clicking. I am able to interact with people that are engaged and on topics I am interested in. It helps that the knowledge here is so wide and deep that I am always learning. I've always been a lone wolf rather than a clubber or clique joiner, but feel like at least here there are some fellow souls.

  18. Well Said Dan,

I have said it dozens of times...."We have the greatest folks in the world in our hobby"

I will also add that for every scam or negative type thing you listed, there are a thousand real, honest postings & people.

Where else in the world could a bunch of guys & girls get together for an event (like Lloydfest) that only lasted a few days & leave feeling that you had made a bunch of lifelong friends that you cannot wait to see again? Where else would you receive a P.M. from a fellow member that you had never met before, but only conversed with on a forum saying.....Hey Bill, I am in your area for a few days, want to get together & boom another lifelong friend?

    God Bless
    Bill
