Got her blasted and did some patch work. Frenched in the b-17 www 2 bomber lights i got off ebay . Went to see an old timer with an old skool louver press, went home and welded the panel in. Just wanna try to build a little rod thats fun to drive lol. Next is the roof. The hamb has been fantastic for inspiration lot of knowledge here and a lot of members willing to anwser what ever the calibre of question Good to see.
i like what you are doing with the roof. so used to seeing them with the top off showing wood slats, or with the vinyl insert. really cool that you are doing a metal hardtop, especially with the ridges. what did that metal come off of? crew cab truck or something? and that's the gas filler in the roof right? planning on it being super low? keep us posted, and good luck with the build.
Roof is off 2007 chev van , went with a 5 inch chop. Decided to run gas filler door on roof to keep the sides of body clean.
Man I am loving this build. Can I ask what kind of motor and trans you'll be running? Keep the pics coming. Chris
How did you build the drip rails from the bottom of the back window to the front of the door. Love the way the roof insert came out.
Taillights from a B-17? That's the most "traditional" thing I've ever heard! Good build so far, lots of innovation. I love Tudors so I'll be following this one.
The drip rails or the continuation of the belt line as some would call it.I went with 1 x 3/8 flat bar. To get the radius around the window i went with a shorter piece put pie cuts in it till i reached the desired radius. I then welded the pie cuts back in and gound smooth. I wanted the face of the molding to be 1/2 inch, so i scribed a line at 1/4 inch and one at 3/4 inch the whole length top and bottom including the radius. I then tacked it on the body including the radius. the next step was to grind the acess down top and bottom with a 4 1/2 angle grinder then used air angle grinder with small disc. This took lots of time to get it straight and smooth, But i feel it was worth it in the end. IT was the cave man way of doing it no lathes or milling machines in this shop lol, sometimes u just got to do it to get it done. Talk about grinding dust. Here is a pic of bomber style seat i built for the project , i went with the hole theme, planning on driling more holes on the project lol. thanks for the comments guys much appreciated, its inspiration to keep her going terry
65 you are rocking right along on this thing. Very nice! ! ! I wish I had half the time you have put into this thing. Mine seems to be on the very slow schedule. We are hopping to finnish putting the engin back together this weekend. Great progress!
