I finally got some progress going on my '32 build and figured I'd share with everyone. The perimeter frame is pretty much squared away now and the suspension is next. The car is getting the Rolling Bones style stance and suspension and with the help of Ken and Keith through email, it's getting there slowly. I got the front end mocked up tonight (don't mind the perch sleeves, they're to locate the spring angle). Overall it's starting to take shape very nicely and hopefully I can get it a roller in the next couple weeks. Here's some shots of it so far and around the shop. The car is getting a DeSoto 291 hemi, so I've stock piled PLENTY of early DeSoto hemi parts. It'll be backed by a World Class T5 for cruising on the highway as rounded off with a Halibrand quickchange. The firewall I have was a butcher job back in the day, badly warped and the bottom was gone, I did my best to get it back into a pretty useable shape, fits the '32 cowl perfectly now. Anyway here are the pics guys!

Way to go!!! Looks like you're off to a great start. I love the rolling bones cars.
What type of body are you running?

Gosh, that gives me goose-bumps. I am aiming for a similar styled setup for my frame that I got a couple weeks ago from Ionia. Bull Dog front end looks awesome!

Looking good - keep us updated! I'm planning on doing a very similar frame soon...
What year/length wishbones did you use?

Cool project... I thought about doing that kind of front end setup on my 32 but didn't. Did you ever look into the short spring perches that speedway sells so you dont have that long pipe sticking out the side of the wishbone?

That's a damn fine shop you have there.

  17. Looks pretty cool so far. That pickup parked behind it is cool!

Nice shop. It must be nice to have so much working space and clean floor. The pinstriped black cabinet is a nice tough too.

  20. Now that's the way to start a project, organized with a ton of space.

The pipe will be gone on the side of the bones, it's just to hold the perches tight to locate the angle for the spring.

    The bones are '32's

As for the body, I have a Brookville roadster on order from about 8 months ago, but I just recently found a '32 5 window body local that was chopped back in the 50's and is SOLID as can be.

The X-member is cut short for the clutch pedal

Tudor - I hope we can make it back down this year!

Oh and for the doors in the background, they're for my buddy's Acura, I need to straighten them for him so he can get them on his car.

    Nice looking chassis.

With that axle/spring placement, what is the overall wheelbase going to be?

How much shorter is the radiator than stock, what length will the hood need to be?(if you are running a hood that is)

The wheelbase will be 108", the radiator is a Walker 2" chopped and the hood length is stock, I had it mocked up with a cowl section and everything measured out right on. I'll probably just get a Rootlieb hood with 25 louver sides, I can't afford the real ones going for $4k+ these days

  25. wow, thats an awesome shop!!!
Nice work buddy, looking forward to see the progress!!!

I'm going to watch this build to see how, and what type front shocks you're going to run. The Houdaille ones I ran didn't work because the arm was too long.

I switched over to friction shocks, but they didn't work well either. A tube shock needs to be used, but I don't know how you would mount it and make it look good....my 2 cents

Larry, as for the shocks, I'm going to use the inboard '34s that are rebuilt. HOPEFULLY they'll have enough in them, I'm debating on my lever setup, I do agree the arm would be too long to reach to the perch, I may run it off the bones.
