Unbelievable! When I arrived in 08’ this machine was already running for 14 years. Keep up the good ‘work’
Congrats on 29 years! I was in the second? wave. Found the place in late 99 thru the Autohaulics page. Didn't actually log in until coming home after Christmas and getting our new to us computer hooked up to the interwebs.
Good stuff man. @Tman i think I found it threw big blue whale? Which I literally remember nothing other than the name lol. Used to check in all the time waiting for a new entry
It was Big Blue Car, same here. There were only about a dozen? sites linked at that time. Not sure if Christians PRIMER! was around or came about shortly after?
Congratulations Boss, the longevity of the Jalopy Journal is a shining example of your determination & persistence, you had the vision to create a forum where other like minded people could communicate and share their passion for a part of the hot rod & customs of the past that no longer had any relevance in present day media. I wasn't one of the early members (#1182) but I have been a ardent supporter since my arrival. I can't imagine my hot rod and custom addiction without the influence of the Jalopy Journal & my pals here on the Hamb! HRP
Congrats on 29 years! Thanks so much for putting your heart and soul into this place. I found the HAMB around 2000, but procrastinated until 2007 to join up. I don't know why it took me so long as there truly is no other automotive website/forum that can compare in focus, quality, and keeping out the b.s.!
Ha, 1994. I was a senior in high school, interested in nothing as my father said but "chasing ass and burning gas". Dad used to tell me "you got two speeds pal, full throttle, and outta gas", and I'd say I still do....
Congrats on 29 years! In 1994 I was street racing on weekends and working on friends cars after school during the week. I didn't even have the internet until 1997, before that the home computer was only used for Wolfenstein and Solitaire on rainy days. I've been here for 20 years, and despite some periods of absence, it has always felt like home. Viva La HAMB!
Ryan: Wow what a great lead picture. Get's an old mans heart pumping, would make great bomber art on the cowl of my new deuce sedan but my wife would never let me out of the garage without covering it up.
Illustrated by a guy named "Van" in 2004. One of the pieces of splash art we used to run on the site...
I remember there being a front page of the slick with the links hidden in it, like you’d have to cursor over it to see if there was a spot to click there?
Very little to do with me actually. I am not a people person and if anything, I've been a hinderance. Sure, I've got persistence and am not afraid of working my ass off... But none of those things build community.
Sorry, I have to disagree. My opinion is that your personal temperament is what keeps this place chugging along so well in it's online format. You've always had the right amount of leash for all the shenanigans, albeit that it has changed over the years. Anyway. Great job and thank you for all you do, and thank you to all who help you also. Here's to another 29 years.
That is the first logo I recall, but didn't join until '05. Ryan should do a thread of the past logos, so many great ones. Congrats!
I'd say surprisingly considering how your site has grown, there's lots of guys on here that aren't people persons. I'm widely regarded as a prick, but I love the hamb. I seem to get along with most everyone here too. Coencidence?!? Lol
