Hot Rods The Story of One Man's Roadster...or "What I did on My Summer Vacation."

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bass, Oct 29, 2012.

  1. This thread just proves, once again, that anything Bass touches turns to gold.

Talent in spades and from what what everyone says, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I hope to meet him myself some day.

While Brian may not have invented The "Epic Thread", he sure is working hard to perfect it.

    .

  2. Awesome can't wait to hear the rest of the story.

I recognize that part of town.. Sketchy. :) Haha.

Plenty of good Thai food around here and in much safer neighborhoods too.

Great story, Brian. As usual, your craftsmanship is nothing short of amazing and your taste in the build is superb. You sir, are a ruler.

This car is the reason I decided to put a 265 in my '35. I loved it since I first seen it. Now that I've had my car on the road I can really appreciate everything you've done to that engine. Turned out great.

I chromed my stock 265 exhaust manifolds and now I'm thinking that Silver Jet Coat might have been a better option. Those look killer!

    Nice work.

  14. Man, your story about going to Tacoma Wash. was great, this is just as good if not better. Great car and a great story. You are truly living the dream that many of us wish we could do like you are.

    Killer HOT ROD, Killer story.

So what was the plan for the Bonneville salt verses the mint chrome?

  17. Great stuff Bass ! Met you at Hotrod-a-rama in Tacoma a while back when you drove the Coupe up here .Love the roadster.. My hats of to you. That SBC is just nuts ! Love the early Weiand goodies. That's one stout 265... The SBC in Ole Saphine is 283, .010 over was thinking of Fenton headers myself, but went with the exhaust manifolds off my 265 powerpack I had in the garage... Great story.. enjoyed reading it all. Cheers ! Rob

    Bass,

An absolutely stunning car to say the least, glad to see you
got to have some historic good times with it this summer although
    things did'nt go as planned.

Question, On your stainless exhaust TIG welding do you use a
purging gas on the inside of the pipes like Argon?

What a great read man, Thanks

Just re-read the thread.. I have to say, it's been too long since you posted up a thread. There just aren't enough threads like yours, let alone one with as high a quality as this thread has.

Well Mr. Bass after comming to your open house a few years ago I was marveled at the cars you build and your level of workmanship .This inspired me, so thats how Bettie came to be that 32 that was suposed to be scraped but after seeing what can be done if you stay after it and I did. Now part 2 I just came back from a mad trip to Edgewood New Mexico I bought the back half of a 29 roadster from Robert Jam here on the Hamb .I had a 29 roadster cowl section. Those 2 parts are already joined and I had 32 frame I bought at pate the front horns are removed now and a model a rear sping and crossmember await. a 39 mercury x member and a 46 truck banjo also a 52 olds 303 with a 2 barrel .Bass I am not trying to copy yours I just want mine to be half as cool !! Brian you inspire alot of us thanks Terry !! Gone to Sema show this week next week it rolls !

I love a good road trip. Always a mix of excitement and anxiety. All senses firing at once - listening for unusual noises, sniffing for fumes looking for smoke and checking he gauges like a nervous addict. The first few hours are always a bit uncomfortable and then I sputter into a calmer state of mind and eventually get lost in the driving.

You really tell a good story Brian. I fell like I was right there with you on the trip. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Over the first 180 miles of our Bonneville trip we had 6 unplanned stops, a radiator leak that we fixed after a over night stop at a buddies house with the help of. Few drinks and most of the next day spent at the nearest tire shop after blowing a tire and then driving on a tilt for the next 30 min. We eventually made it in our classic travco motorhome. Long trips make for good storys.

    Hi,
    Very nice Project!
I have just one question, how can I contact David Devers, your friend who did the seats for you.
I would like to ask which type of foam did he used to make your seats.

    thanks for your help :)
