    Sorry, it hasn't been found...

Does anyone have any pics of Stu Hilborn's one-man streamliner? The little black one he bought in 1941.

I've always loved that little car and have been thinking that after my thrash on the current RPU is over I might try to clone the Hilborn car. It should be easy and cheap enough.

Anyway, I have the pics from the #24 TRJ (awesome). If anyone else has any (digital or print) I would appreciate it if I could get a copy.

    Thanks, JH

  3. I'd like to see some more pics of it too. That is one of my all time favorite cars. It would be cool to build a clone and make it look like you just pulled it out of a barn. It would be fun to see how many people you could fool. Wouldn't bemuch more than a fairgrounds car. Single seat, no lights and no windsheild. The cops would love it!!

I'm suprised someone has not built a duplicate of it. it's one cool looking race car. was it ever shown in any old issues of hot rod mag.?. if so, let me know the issue and i'll dig it out of my piles of hot rod mags.

There is a good picture on page 56 of Dry Lakes and Drag Strips by Dean Batchelor. If I had a scanner I'd scan it, maybe someone with a copy of the book has a scanner.

It was on the cover of the April 1948 issue of Hot Rod.

Don't know if there was a feature inside though.

    Anyone have a copy?

    Thanks, JH

  11. I am pretty sure it was hotrod of the month that month. I got that first 12 issues book, but it's at home... I could check later.

    Jay

ps if it was hotrod of the month, they do a pencil cutaway drawing of it and a small story about it.

RocketJ2: your right on the month and also hot rod of the month, but no cutaway. would have been neat to see a cutaway of it, just to see all the parts they used.

Lowlife: when was that picture taken?.would sure be nice to find it again.
of note, there is a T roadster that has been in many shows that has a 4 carb intake like the one on the picture.the story i read ,said that it was a one off and has not been found?. guess someone duped it, as i saw one like it in the portland roadster show 2 yrs ago. think the car was from some where in the south.

I actually started building a buck to duplicate the body last year. I used sheets of 3/4 inch styrofoam pinned together...when I was happy with that, I planned on transfering it to plywood... I'll have to see If I have pix of it. Then like everything else, other things got in the way. I was just tryin to get it visually right. Don't know the real dimensions [IMG] BUT Don Montgomerys books have some great pic of the car here and there. Near as I could tell from the pics...the frame rails are exposed and (get this) they appear to be like model A, but turned around so the front horns are out back! Thats a wicked little car. Can you image bein' the first guy to run 150mph in it?

  14. Man, this really gets the gears a turning. I wonder how a slightly longer car fitted w/ a well set-up straight 8 would go?

God, talk about he ultimate Hot Rod. You could run 150 mph+ at the flats, change the tires & gearing and run high 10's at the strip.

Just you, a chassis & cage, driveline, hand hammered bare metal body lettered w/ a paint brush, and eight thumping, bumping, roaring cylinders screaming through one very large open pipe.

Oh baby, I'm gettin' all excited.
