how would i go about getting plans to build a front engine dragster similar to the famous surfers ride.
The search funtion here on the board will get you a real good start. I bought an old Ch***is Research FED frame and in a week I learned and saved so much data that I thought I would never find. The power of the HAMB can not be beat! GOOD LUCK,MAN!
Go to, We Did it For Love ( subcription needed wdifl.com ) and there is 2 pages on the Surfers. In the Book " High Performance ", by Robert Post there also is a short part of a chapter on the Surfers with Diminsions for the Ch***is. You have to do the RESEARCH. I was going to build this car before Pat Foster did it and I have over 180 pages of reference. Tom Jobe of the Surfers worst fear was to face the car I replicated in the first rounds of eliminations, Jim Brissette's 1964 Woody "Back Motor" Fueler. When the Surfers had Frank Huszar at RCS change the ch***is in the fall of 1965, the motor appears to be closer to the rearend, 20 1/2 inches, rearend to motorplate, but Tom said it wasn't changed since first building the ch***is. Brissette motor was out the same distance 20 1/2''. When there is a Fueler running 7.50 in 1964, 7.38 in Feb 1966 and speeds of 205 mph in 1964, 216 & 219 mph in 1965, do you think the Surfers would make a ch***is change to move the motor back ? Tom said NO, I say YES. Here is a picture of my Cackle Car as it was run at the 1965 Winternational. Keep us posted and good luck.
