I also think that part of it is that a lot of the pics are taken from a diagonal angle so it really makes it stand out more than it does at any other angle. I found a good pic of from the side and it really is kinda subtle from the side profile.

i tip my hat to you , thats some excellant repair and fabrication work , awesome

  7. Work continued on Shoebox #1. The upper crowns at the upper corners of the rear glass are being formed and tacked in place. Some might ask "why do it in several pieces?"... Its actually easier, and the shaping of the panel can be more accurate. We do add/finish the roof off with 18ga, which is similar to stock. It can be tough to work with on the english wheel, so smaller parts make it easier during the fabrication process.

The lower sections and the continuation of the rear panel below the rear window to be started tomorrow. This should be all tacked in, in the next few days.

    Stay Tuned!

Wow! Great work. I have to say, I'm leaning toward shoebox #2, but they're both really cool. And I like the flipped rear window. Nice touch.

  12. Were off to repairing the windshield surround on Shoebox #1. It had alot do be desired. There was no way glass was going to fit in it properly without breaking.

Both the A pillars were re-cut. Old lead was heated and removed. Its amazing that some folks think that lead is a good filler, it is on 'old school' terms to skim or lightly fill, but not in the forms of 1lbs per square inch. :) ... and not if the panels aren't properly aligned.

The upper and lower corners were cut out so both upper and lower pillars could be moved for re-alignment.

You can see during the process and measuremnts, it needs repaired.

    Here we go!

Good looking stuff! Nice to see someone else working out side under a canopy like my self. I've been jokingly calling myself "hajji Babba's hot rods" for the last couple of years now. My louver press has always taken up the lions share of my shop, so fabrication is usually done outside under cover. By the way, even though my louver shop has been around as a part time thing for many years, my reason and philosophy behind the fabrication end is the same as yours. I too seem to spend lot's of time undoing the mistakes of others. Good work.

Norm, just was finishing up the custom floor on my shoebox (shoebox#2) Car now has a 16 gallon tank instead of a fuel cell, like it had beforehand. Also has all kinds of trunk space and provisions to run a rear seat which it didn't have before. The custom grille surround is in progress, it'll be a merc style surround w/ rounded hood corners, and the car is having 51 hinges modified to work so that I don't have to run exterior trunklid hinges like it originally had.I'm so happy with all the work Norm's done on my car and am excited to see it turning into the custom that I've always wanted

Man I went from a cell to a 16 gal mustang tank like yours. It eliminted a ton of hassles and freed up lots of trunk space.

If you need a used filler pipe I've got extras, also a really cool bob drake flexible filler hose goes between the tank and the pipe $24 and it makes it way easier to fill the tank. I gotta pick one up!
