When your back is against the wall, and you have no other choice, you have to do things others that have never been in your shoes will never understand.
Doing something crude, or strange to others, might buy you a couple of months longer of getting by. Sometimes a couple months can change everything.
In my welding shop I did a lot of things that bought the customer another 4-6 months of vehicle use. That made for some really good life long customers. When you can help someone safely get by when they have limited choices, most people will never forget what you did for them.

The truck pictured probably made what was a total loss into something he could use another 6 months, or maybe a year, maybe even longer. As is, he is driving rather then walking, he probably doesn't care what you think.
There has been a lot of effort invested in the lighting and such, this one may have been just because he could, he wanted to shock you and get attention. Looks like it worked.

Last October in a Love's Truck Stop - agricultural area in south east Arizona. I was on my way to get the accident report on my 1962 Volvo.

A couple in their 30's came out and drove off. I suspect that they down on their luck - and - working hard to survive. I respect their will to move forward.

I was sitting in an almost new Toyota Tacoma - we paid cash. But life was not always that way. There is a reason we live in a 46 year old double wide mobile home on a rocky dirt road.

I did lots of years in night school and drove lots of junk cars (low point was a $25 Opel Kadette station wagon). I did a very expensive divorce once. And a 7.5 hour open-heart surgery.

I was extremely fortunate to have good employers with half decent benefits. I'm 81 now. In some ways we are still "down-on-our-luck" - mostly due to medical issues. VA takes good care of my wife and I have health insurance thru the state retirement plan. A modest retirement income works because we do not have "Gated Community" expenses.

Sometimes, folks need to understand that folks have to struggle to survive.

As a Michigan truck with no rear brakes, it’s probably already written off.

  13. At least the little Anglia is still a roadster . RHD or LHD no longer important . White box on the floor looks like a Esky cooler. . Must be a Aussie cane-field contraption.
