I think a lot of what we are now seeing are guys that can't find, can't afford, or really don't want an old car, but don't want what the modern **** looks like either. What they really want is something different that will attract a lot of attention. They may have some skills, or know someone that has some skills, and are willing to fund, or create something that is different and attracts attention.

We think their creations are ugly, maybe even disgusting, but 75% of the general population will tell them their ride is "cool".

Either way, they have accomplished their goal, their ride is different, and it attracts attention. They really don't care if you like it, hate it, or laugh at it. The point is, you looked at it. Goal achieved.

 

Why do you think this is a fake image? It looks real enough to me.

 

Good points Gene. I actually enjoy this thread. No, I would never attempt to build anything like these, I wouldn't want to own or drive anything like these. But I do find find this thread very entertaining.

If I’m not mistaken, this was a car advertised in Hemmings for $10,000 just after the prices of 300SLs began to take off. The ad ran once. I never heard the outcome: was it a scam, or just someone incredibly clueless? The car was quite trashed. If it wasn’t (at the time) a $500K car, it wouldn’t have been worth restoring.
