Ok, here are a few pics of the original door panels and a few of the new ones. They are almost done. Just need to add a small trim piece that I will be recycling from the original door panel. Chuck
Ok everybody, good news!!!! The snow is finally melting and making me feel good about getting my portable garage back up, once this happens the late nights after work will start, I CAN'T WAIT.... Also I got the Buick registered last week on the first try and only waited about 45 minutes. Here are a few pics of the snow finally melting away, by this weekend that 6 inches of ice under the snow should be easy enough to break away. Wish me luck! Chuck
Woo Hoo Progress! I was able to get the rear fender off to start doing the body work and replace the fender welt! And the best news is that the ice on the driveway is gone so I can put my portable garage back up. Here is a few pics of the fender taken off. Scarebird brake kit by the end of the month, finish the interior door panels, trunk latch and hidden release. Time to get cookin! Chuck
Garage is back up and functional. I was out there last night until 11pm tinkering away working on getting the dash out. Tonight I have to have a traditional Irish dinner pre St. Pattys day, so no work tonight. The rest of the week looks like it will be nice weather so I plan on being out there bustin my hump! Wish me luck, anybody have any tips on removing the dash in this beast? Chuck
Starting to get some progress made on a daily basis now after I get home from work at night. This past weekend the dash came out to do a few repairs and a fresh 2-tone paint job. The back seat is out and in need of some serious help, but that shouldn't be an issue. I started stripping some of the paint off of the front of the car, and last night I got the rear decklid off to fill in the holes strip it and repaint. I found a place up the road that I can get 20 gauge steel 5'X4' for $55.00, which will be used as patch panels for the front floor and the trunk. I will take some more pics tonight, but here are 2 pics of where the dash used to be. Chuck
Great you've now got the covering back up and you are fully functional. I used one of these for many years on LI and they really work well but I never had the snows you had this past winter. The door panels look good - I posted a pic of my avatar's panel. Simple and enjoyable. One suggestion is to perhaps seal the back side of the panels with exterior varnish or just plain primer. They will warp w/moisture and get funky looking if you don't. This is of course if you have not already done so. One final thing - that car is pretty clean considering. Not much to really attack rust wise. It will be a really nice cruiser .... looking forward to more pics of your progress as it's looking good!
Thanks Tom! I just bought some sealer for the back of the door panels this weekend, so before I mount them I am going to hit them with it. The car is amazingly solid for being a "50", The worst of it is in the rear drivers side fender. I do have that off and have it stripped, I see there was some prior repairs done with fibergl***, but that shouldn'y be to much of an issue to correct. My plan is to have the car on the road in May for my little sisters wedding. By the way nice car you got there! Chuck
Sanding, grinding, patching Woo Hoo we are movin! My dash is ready for primer and a 2-tone paint job. I have been sanding the body down to bare metal for the liitle body work that is needed. Last night we swapped out the rear springs for 79 el camino's and Man that is a GREAT look! No pictures, but I will get some very soon. Chuck
Hello Hambers! So Spgill2000 and I had a very productive weekend on the Buick. New floors where cut and welded in, sealed and painted! As of Saturday 4/16/11 I have 5 weeks to have her back on the road for my little sisters wedding. Here's a few pics for you!
Ok, so I guess I had a busy weekend. Finally got a chance to push the car out of the portable garage to get a good look at it. The paint is almost stripped from the car, I am going to finish that this week. In the midst of that I will also be doing what little cody work is left. Hopefully by saturday I can have her in primer and finish anything else that comes up. Well here is a few pics. The 79 el Camino springs are in the rear now and I love it!
Alright, another productive weekend! Stripped the remaining paint from the body and the roof of the car. Driver side has a little bit of filler on it already just to fill in some small imperfections. Also, we got the dash done. Candy coat blue on black. Here are a few pictures but they really do no justice as to how it really looks in person glistening in the sun! Now that the car is stripped I can hit it again with the DA and get a good heavy primer and block sanding in and have it painted by the weekend. Body Flat Black, and the roof candy blue just like the dash! Oh yeah, the wedding is less than 2 weeks away and thats when I'm trying to have the car done..... Chuck
The roof and the rest of the car is stripped of the paint. I just ordered my black primer and should be ready to spray on Saturday afternoon! It is crunch time and I am itching to drive her..... Chuck
Alright so with the help of my good friends Sean "spgill2000" here on the hamb. We got the car primered, sanded and painted! Woo Hoo we are rolling now. Next is to paint the candy blue roof!
Ok so last week did not turn out to well for the car! My wife was admitted into the hospital last Monday and as of today is still there receiving high doseage antibiotics and will have exploratory surgery tonight so we can hopefully get some answers. I did however want to show you how great my friends are and what they are willing to do. My buddy Sean, a fellow HAMB'er, and his girlfriend Tiffster. Went to the garage where we painted the car, unwrapped the tape and paper, called AAA and had the car dropped off at my house, and then had to push the car into the portable garage. After they did that they took to Half hour drive from my house to the hospital to visit with my wife and I. THE BEST KIND OF FRIENDS you could ever ask for! Here is a pic Sean took of the car after unwrapping all the windows, I love it and can't wait until Becky, my wife, is feeling better so we can get her back on the road and start cruising! LOL Sean even offered to bring his tools down to the hospital so we could get Becky back to proper working order. Again, THE BEST, Thank you Sean and Tiffster! Chuck
Alright, Hopefully this long weekend will be productive. My wife is out of the hospital and able to rest comfortably at home! The weather should be nice. I can rebuild the carb, and hopefully cut the water heater sized muffler off and get it ready for something a little throatier. I ordered rear shock links today from Bob's and I will also be replacing the from sway links. Chuck
car is looking good finally had to take mine for a ride today took a pic of it its my avatar right now
Alright, alright, alright! Sean and I broke down the carb and replaced the gaskits and gave it a good cleaning! Put it back togther and ran it off off a gas can and boy o boy does she run good. This week I have to pull the tank and clean it out, seems as though its got some junk in it. On the home stretch now, and I can't wait to be cruising! Chuck
Progress! I pulled the gas tank out and cleaned that out, blew the gas line out from the back to the front. Replaced the 2 rear shock links. I can now put a new in-line filter on the gas line up by the carb, get some gas in the tank and run it! Cover the seats and get them back in. I think Saturday's job will be to get the dash back in. Closer and closer we come! I was trying to post pics, but something happened where I cant. Chuck
Thanx Tug! I was going to go and was looking forward to it, but I won a radio contest this week and have a chance to win 10G's rolling dice at MGM. Wouldn't that be nice lol. I stopped by Randy's last week and saw your car in the garage, I think he just ran out to the parts store when I stopped. Your car is lookin real good man! Talk to you soon! Chuck
