It's Denver, the air is as dry as a popcorn fart. Same as we have up here. You can leave a car in bare metal for years with hardly a hint of flash rust.. Good to see you still at it Jerry!
Oh heck, I totally believe the story. About 10/12 years ago I “cleaned up” a small piece of my dads property. I moved all usable wheels along one side near an old black walnut tree. There’s about an 4/5 inch diameter scrub walnut growing up through an old 8 lug wheel. It’s along the fence, so I’m going to leave it
I don’t know him, but as mentioned I do believe the story. In 30 years, someone will be scratching their head about my “wheel tree”.
Nope, I got all the pics Ted had when I bought it from him in July of 2005. Ted and Don had to get the car out of there before the guy got out of the psych ward at the hospital and came home to see his wife had sold it. Ted unbolted the body from the frame and cut it in half through the rockers/subrails. That's the way it was when I bought it from him. I think he got the ch***is too by taking out the rear crossmember/spring/differential. Ted had a local tree service look at taking the tree down but they couldn't guarantee that the body wouldn't be damaged so he got creative. The other issue was that the car was right up against the grain bin so he couldn't get at that side of the car to take the body off. He asked the owners wife if he could move the grain bin but she said she said "No". When she wasn't watching, Ted took several long log chains and hooked them together around the base of the grain bin and hooked them up to his four wheel drive pickup and gave a huge jerk to move it over a couple of feet. That did the trick and he got it the hell out of there and never went back because the guy was nuts. Where Tom Bay welded her back together,
I have planted a lot of trees over the years and I know of a few that could grow that fast, like silver maples and cottonwoods. That tree looked like a cottonwood to me with that co**** bark on the trunk. Like Trent said, the climate there is sunny with low humidity but with a fair amount of snow and rain. It did have some rust in the doors and quarters but it was surprisingly solid, even the subrails. Tom Bay of R&J Enterprises, Arkansas City, KS patched her up for me and fabricated the laid back windshield frame that had been cut off. Here's some pics of the rust repairs, the welds still need to be ground down and finished. There are still a few pinholes in the door skins for me to fix.
Thanks Trent, I don't seem to get a lot done on my cars but I'm always busy. We spent last summer painting the house and shop (44 gallons), staining the deck and 76 feet of fence (8 gallons). After that we took a couple of weeks off traveling in the motorhome and then I did a wash, wax and buff before putting it away. It seems like there is always something that needs to be done that gets in the way of my many projects.
Good to hear from ya! In the last 3 years I got divorced and got married again in October to a gal I met in 5th grade. LilT is now almost 14 and keeping us busy with baseball, huge talent.
Hi Ron, I'd love to see your coupe again, its looking great! I guess it depends on whats happening with the Covid thing, but it isn't looking good in Arizona right now, so I haven't made a decision yet. I kind of lost my enthusiasm for the event when they made it a three day show. Hell, I won't even do three days at a Good Guys show! The LA Roadster Show is the only one that's worth three days and they do it in two and it has the best swap meet there is! I sure would like to see Arizona Deuce Day be revived and be done up here in Prescott at the Watson Lake City Park or downtown on Courthouse Square. I had talked to George after he decided to retire from doing it and I offered to bring it up here and do it. I had done some checking on the costs for the venues with the city and George told me how he ran things with the merchandise. At that time George said the V-8 Club was going to keep doing it in Glendale but it never happened. After I came to my senses and my wife (rather sternly) reinforced that I didn't have the time to dedicate to doing it right, I was glad George didn't take me up on it! Once things get back to normal, it would still be a cool thing to do up here with the great venues available, with some pretty scenic drives around Prescott for a Poker Run plus some neat shops for a garage tour. We just need someone to work their ****s off like George and the V-8 Club did!
Don't be surprised if deuce day does come back. While Prescott sound amazing for it just not sure the guys down here in Phoenix would drive up there. With regards to Havesue, I am only going on Friday afternoon and Saturday. Like you, I can't do multiple days show unless it's an amazing show like GNRS or LA Roadster show. Both of which are canceled for this year so that leaves Haveuase only. Hopefully, we see you there and if not call me if you still have my number and stay in touch.
Ron, check your map, from Phoenix its only a 100 miles to Prescott and almost 200 miles to Lake Havasu! The Deuce guys down there I know will drive anywhere for a good show that's not in a parking lot.
I know it's only 100 miles. It's the perception of the distance that takes them out. You know me I will drive just about anywhere in my coupe. Will stay in touch and see what happens once all the Covid stuff is done. Stay safe and again that roadster body is now totally stuck in my head its so cool.
Awesome save and great to see another 32 cabriolet . A rare body style and this one looks solid and complete. I dont know how I missed this thread but love it
