The '55-57 Chevys are great cars, but I never really understood the outright obsession with them. I guess some people get excited about seeing a few dozen identical cars lined up, but I don't get it.
I've had all kinds of tri-fives and have really liked them all. It doesn't seem like you see them in herds like you used to though. You can always appreciate a nice'n. I like them customized but very few hit the mark. I personally like most of the factory chrome and trim that comes on them and think they look great with just an "altitude" adjustment. I've probably stuck to this recipe with down the road re-sale in mind but I've always thought most 50's cars just need a stance to be cool.
I would agree that for the most part tri 5 chevy's are a tuff subject in the custom world where majority look like crap with anything more than a general shave and a paint job with some lowering and wheels but I feel that this is the best example to date of what a customized chevy should look like!
this car confuses the crap outa me.. the hood is pancaked right? but the front fenders raised, which makes me think its been sectioned, but then the door looks stock height. what happened here? did he just raise the front wheel openings so much because of the reverse wheels??
The 57 4 door would be an unusual candidate but when going radical it works! It so hard to determine what the actual pedigree besides the bottom area of the quarter glass.
No it not sectioned the biggest change is the hump in the quarter panel just bellow the quarter glass has been removed and to achieve the sectioned look the wheel wells were raised and yes pancaked hood to me this is bitchin and would be in my garage if I could afford her!
i agree Sams being repainted is a crime... a horrible crime.. but that being said its still an amazing car
Tri-fives definately get a bad rap I think. I dig em, and you can go alot of different ways with them. I like em mild. My 55.
I'm with you there, '55 is a little too plain, '57 has a little too much gingerbread, '56 was just right

Never much cared for 55 Chevy's.....but there are a select few I like ok. And they're customized. Most anything looks better when given the right TOUCH..... Stock is just too STALE.....
Chevy customized the '55 to make the '57. You can't hurt a 4 door post through modification, but a Bel Air hardtop, Nomad, or convert can't be improved. It can be different, but not 'better'.
