Or go crazy and take the outer skin of the tailgate off, send it to Da Tinman Jay and have him bead roll some pinstriping into it...hahaha...

You could go either way, imprinted or with the beads sticking out...or do the imprinted straight beads like the new Lincoln's and Caddy's...the peak in the center might still be too plain and leave too much flat and open space...a peak and louvers would be bitchin, especially if you louver the hood to match...

NO LOUVERS. Ask any body guy their opinion on louvers and it will all be the same. I like to look at them, but hate to sand them. Some day when I can afford to pay somebody to build me a car, it will be filled with louvers. As long as I have to sand them they will not be here.

I don't like you anymore...hahaha, kidding...I'm still debating whether to louver the hood of my '63 Dodge this winter...and that's the exact reason why I don't want to do it, along with the trouble of removing the bracing structure and having to put that structure back in when done...

I check every change with him before I do it. To me it is still his truck, so I don't want to do something he will not like. He has liked everything so far. It is easy for him to check on it, he only lives across the street.

It is still there a little. Everything I am doing is something I have thought about in great detail for years. Even when it was still my dad's truck. Now that I am doing it, it is coming out just as I thought. Just a few minor changes along the way. I will try to roll it out this weekend to get some better full shots. I have to clean the garage anyway, the grinder makes a hell of a mess.

Here are the latest updates. I worked on the ends of the bed. I knew how I wanted it to look, but was not really sure how to get there. I wanted it really round with rounded ends. I found a nice set of balls(that just sounds bad) in the Mcmaster-Carr catalog. They fit the bed roll great. I had left over steel tube from the tailgate to roll up to the balls.

Here is my ball tacked in

After lots of welding, grinding, welding, grinding to get the flow correct

Here are some shots of the whole rear. Next up taillights and finish the roll pan

That tailgate needs something, right now it looks too much like a late model pickup...not sure what would "fix" that...I love the way the fins are turning out, any plans to blend some sheetmetal between the bedrail and the tube you welded to the ball on the outside of the bed?...I could see a "patch" put on between the tubes, ball and curved stake pocket...it looks good as is, but tacking in a filler panel might give an idea of whether it's worth pursuing a smoother fin on the outside edge...keep up the killer work man...

I'm not sure that would work, with the piece under the roll. It would have to go all the way to the front of the bed. The pocket does not intersect the bed roll, so a patch would have no place to end. If I am understanding you correctly. In person it looks a little different, it flows really well. That is the problem with the pictures, the truck looks different in person. A few people that have seen it here and in person, have told me it looks better in person.

I will figure it out. I want the pan finished up first. Then it will go outside for me to take it all in. I will make a decision after I can look at it from afar.

X2! All the better that you live so close. You are both very fortunate!

The new bed really seems to work with this truck.

Will the taillights be Chevy Belair (dual in a single chrome bezel)? And will the license plate be recessed in the pan? (The truck already reminded me of the "Mountain Pearl". Was that truck an inspiration?)

Any idea yet as to paint?
