Since I had last week off work I got to spend a couple of good days (more than three hours) working on my car. Here's a link to the previous stuff. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82159&&showall=1 I had already welded the sleeves for bushings into my wishbone pieces that I am using for a four link. But needed the the tie rod ends and brackets for the front end of the links. The bottom links where a no brainer as I want it to look like split bones from the side. I wanted to do something cool for the top (inside) links even though no one will see them. I wasn't sure how I wanted to build the brackets so I ran to the closest hardware store which is also an Army surplus place to look for metal-inspiration and I found turnbuckle clevis' that fit the bill for my brackets. I will use bolts when I but it together for real but the pins look cool for now. Here's some pics incase my rambling lost you.
Here's more of the four link and rear leaf setup. Everything is just tacked well for now I will finish welding after I know it will all work.
I also got the front suspension done. It is suicide Rolling Bones style. At this point I had to roll the ch***is around the shop just because I could (sorry no pic of me rolling the ch***is around the shop) been waiting forever to be able to say that my car rolls. I also got the motor in. Used the stock motor side of the mount and made the frame side of the mount. Hopefully on Wednesday I will finish the ****** cross member. Thanks for looking.
If that clevis is cast I'd be a bit concered about how strong it will be after it's welded with out pre and post heating it could be come brittle. Be safe Pat.
I'm no expert so I won't chime in on the clevis. Your car is killer. Keep up the good work. I always love to see some good progress pics. Woody
I asked the old guy where I bought and he said it is forged. I was thinking the same thing but he said they would have to be forged they were from a huge turnbuckle.
As Dodgerodder said kinda useless but I pushed my car outside for some pics. My stuff isn't shiny yet but man it is very motivating to see it look like a car and roll around. The ride height ended up right where I wanted it with the weight in it. Just had to share. Thanks for looking.
Now if you REALLY wanna be like me you can push it back inside and stare at it for another month or so cuz you ran yourself outta money building it. Seriously though, looking great. Its always nice to get a good view of what the thing looks like outside, instead of the cluttered shop or garage, kind of a morale booster! Keep up the good progress, you'll be done and I'll still be staring at my rolling ch***is in the shop hehe
Looks really good CK. Love the front end treatment. What did that tub start out as? I like it. Windshield design looks like your heading in the right direction. Will we see you again in August pinstriping at the "Rama"?(Hope so) maybe your ride will be done as well. That would be great if it was. Dale
Had to chime in.."Rolling Bones style" Getting tired of hearing that one.Anyone else out there remember the "Spencer '32"???? They just copied what was done back in the day. Hey I do like your car! Hi Dale!
It started as a fordor and I second the hope that my car and I will be at the Hot Rod-a-rama this year.
Rolling Bones style" Getting tired of hearing that one. Anyone else out there remember the "Spencer '32"???? They just copied what was done back in the day. I checked in my Funk and Wagnalls to discover that style is "The combination of distinctive features of literary or artistic expression, execution, or performance characterizing a particular person, group, school, or era". Hence, Rolling Bones style is an appropriate description. As we purport ourselves to be "traditional rodders" little innovation is tolerated. Our renderings are conglomerations of tried and true techniques developed by our predecessors. The Rolling Bones are perhaps the most adept at ***embling the finest mechanical and artistic designs of our forefathers. Sure, much was procured from Doane Spencer (he had much to offer), But the style is purely Rolling Bones.
I don't have a problem with the "Bones" guys.Everytime they build a car it has parts from me on it.They might not know it,but I supply the parts to Mac's.Original lever arms for the shocks etc.. When they built the B400 for Lance I shipped parts straight to 'em. But I do think it is funny how the Spencer style front end is now called "RB" style. But I guess that happens everywhere, especially in the music biz. Who ever is the most popular gets to claim the style as "theirs" I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE CARS ARE DRIVEN!!
Lookin good ! I love the build ups and gonna follow this one. What type rear axle and spring is that ? / primerkid
well I've been away, so I know this is late...as Ron says, we're on the HAMB because of our love of Traditional Hot Rods....not much is new here....I hope we all agree on that...maybe I'm not correct, but many of the best ideas have been used elsewhere. Like you said, whoever brings it back and gets noticed gets to seize the credit...haha, We'll be the first to admit we "stole" or "adopted" ideas from the most bad *** rides from the past.....on a side note, I noticed you mentioned the B400 for Lance....Rolling Bones did not build that car or John Smiths 5 window....Nelson Dupre(spelling?) has the credit for those....well, there it is...my chime...haha
