I don't know if this one was actually built.

Like it or not, that took some imagination. Actually, fixed up a little I'd drive it. :)

Now that is TOTALLY ugly, but the best example yet of bordering on... something. Love it.

^^ That thing is just begging for a dragster chassis. Put it in the 8s and then watch 'em laugh.

Has every custom that was ever featured in a car magazine been posted on this thread by people who just hate customs, yet?

I LOVE kustoms (and customs) and I estimate that about one out of every three cars customized by the owner is less attractive than the car was before they touched it.
Things can go south pretty quick when poor vision meets unlimited possibilities.

isn't that the car from the tv show that a horse rode in many years ago? Trigger maybe? if it is, it was owned by a junkyard and it was for sale. can't remember all the details right now with my old brain.

I originally thought this was a waste but after looking at it a while, it really grew on me and would love to own it and try to do something with it. definitely would be one of a kind in town.

  17. It'd make my day if that cruised by..

  18. I was just reading in a American Classics British magazine and it had the 58 Packard in it and the story of the downfall of Packard this being the last Packard. They were having money problems from 1955 and joined up with Studebacker. Before realizing that they were in a bind as well. In the early 50s and back hey we're the cars dreams were made of and definately huge competition to Lincoln and Cadillac. One can see they had lost direction by the 58 model and were just a shadow of some of the great cars that had made in the past

Getting more show points was a big part of why customs got more ugly. If a guy could get 1 point for a nice roof scoop centered above the rear window, why not add 2 more to the corners of the roof, 2 more above the tail lights, and get 5 points instead. Then the next guy adds double the scoops to these areas to get more points, and it just snowballs from there!
As far as some of the other ugliness, many of these cars were built in a single car garage. The builders never pushed them outside to see how badly they missed on the proportions.
Or.......they just had no sense of style, and built a butt ugly car!

  20. A lot of these "ugly" customs are still better than all the International, early dodge PU and lately a damn UPS truck..and rat rods in general...What the hell is happening to the HAMB????????? RYAN????Are you sleeping???

Cord used a Lycoming v-8 (289 Cubic inch, 125 hp) so it could be the original engine.

Makes me think I'm having an episode of double vision!

  24. Isn't that simply a Russian Sedan from sometime back in the 1960;s? I don't believe that's an Australian Custom Car....Then again, maybe it's just a Godawful 55-56 Ford that has been violated.....I am running out the door as I type, but this one needs a little research done..I can't recall its name but someone here on the HAMB has seen these cars before, I'm sure.....Centurion9

  25. Nope, that's from 'Down Under'.... LOL. Ford sent all the '56 Ford dies/etc to Australia (well, all the 4-dr sedan stuff anyway) after production ceased here and they lived on as 'Customlines' (with local restyling touches) there until '59.

  26. Thank you Steve....I guess that would actually qualify as "ugly"....:)

It is, or was, a 56 Ford sedan. Can't make out which side the steering wheel is on, but the license plate appears to be American.

  28. This has to be the biggest "Love.....Hate.....Love" thread on here. Pictures are pretty cool! But some of the quotes are even better!!
