BTW I think this one could come out looking better than the RPU, that grill shell is going to look bad *** with that cab!
That's because you are a bad influence on me, even if your wife thinks it's the other way around. Wait, we DID actually mount the hidden suicide hinges on the RPU, it only took about two cases... I may need a little help welding in this floorboard patch, I'm not so good welding on thin stuff.

Looking at it again... The only thing I can see from that angle is that it should be chopped an inch or two. You need a few radiator support rods when you get that far. I like that grill shell. Model A headlights might work. Dave may still have some 10" industrials.

Helluva nice project, excellent start too. Come on now guys, maybe I been mis educated, but I was always taught "the only thing better than free beer is more free beer." Even if it is native ice.
I dont drink free beer unless its the right brand, serious, I know it sounds stoooopid, but if I dont like the flavor of a beer, I ain't drinking it, free or not. I'd rather pay for a beer with color and flavor. BTW Richard, cool truck and progress, I pm'd Louis to remind him its drinking time again', I'll provide the flavorful stufffffs.
I'm using that exact same grill... my '39 grill is NOS without trim. I've been thinking of filling it all it. Our projects are very similar except I'm using a '46 Ford.
Natural Light, the beer with the taste for more beer. Last time that I drank too much of that I slammed my head on a table reaching for my hat at a strip club. Damn near knocked me out. I blamed my lack of attention on the beer. Nice project, though. I've got several '54 Chevy truck cabs here but only one straight axle frame. I would like to do the same type of thing some day. I've got plenty of parts to practice on!

I really aint that Grumpy, Just think you guys ring the bell a Lil to hard about these Fenderless trucks. If they are so damn cool, Why you guys always asking for acceptance & input on them ??
I don't ask for acceptance, it's just that most of these trucks are built by younger guys that can't afford a coupe, or roadster. You know the more common rods. These are a cheap alternative to a coupe if you ask me. Look again at these trucks. They may not be "traditional" but they are definately influence by the traditional rods. I respect all the older guys on here that have been doing this for years, and I am still pretty new. I personally don't live the "life style" but I respect it. I just enjoy building things whether it be cars, houses, artsy metal sculptures (I am a carpenter by trade originally) or large commercial office buildings (whicih is what the company I work for now does). Anyway, I don't mean to offend you but the only posts I have really seen by you are allways sounding grumpy. It's like someone gets up every morning and pisses in your Wheaties!
Yer #1 helper will be tied up this week-end with the Autorama, but maybe I can see some progress when I get back! To answer the drivetrain question, it will most likely be a 327 for starters, as that's what I got lying around. Got a line on a '62 Olds, but nothing definite yet.
You hit the nail on the head. Desoto is kinda ****ish, but I do respect and for the most part agree with his opinion. Like I have said, this thing is really a practice run, I've never built a car form the frame up. You should see the cars I was drooling over at the Autorama, not many I really liked, but the ones that were "right" were great. I probably would have walkd right past what I'm building here, but I am learning a lot, and not ruining some valuable pice of vintage tin. It may even end up pretty cool.
