Last night I was on YouTube and came across this video about a guy who wanted to buy a '55 or'57 Chevy for his collage ride, his brother told him to buy a '53 Studebaker because he knew of where one was and also had a hot rod magazine article about how to put a 327 Chevy in it. Curiosity has gotten the better of me and now I'm wondering if anyone remembers such an article and what year/month it was. The article was titled "the Ultimate Hot Rod". Since I have a rather extensive collection, I may have it already. I'm thinking it would probably be a Car Craft little pages because they did a lot of engine swap articles back in the day. Here's the video.
In the video Homer says he bought the car in '65 and 327's went into production in '62 so that gives us a 3 year window to look for. I don't know off the top of my head what year Car Craft went to large format magazines, but so far, I've found an article on putting a Buick Nailhead in a Studebaker and one on swapping in a Cadillac but no sbc.
I don’t have much of a magazine collection and I lost most of it in a basement flood. So I decided to troll my way through @Duece666’s 99SpeedShop magazine cover website. The closest I could find was the October 1962 issue of Speed Mechanics. It is an engine swap issue and has an article: ‘The Ultimate Street Rod’. Does anyone have a copy to check?
Not what you are looking for but here are the How to Swap the Most Popular V8 and The Ultimate Street Rod articles in October 1962 issue of Speed Mechanics:
Harry Bradley's "dream rod" surely favors the "Dollar A Pound" Henning and Rich car!!! I didn't watch the video, but the first Stude that came to mind was Andy Herbert's? It was featured in the Petersen book "How to Build a Street Machine" and later in the nineties in a Hot Rod issue ('97-'99?)...
