That is the Grist brothers Gas Coupe, they had a number of different sponsors, Reath Automotive, Joe Mailard, Shiftmaster and maybe more.

  8. Did the Grist brother's coupe get sold to Jim Kirby ? Then later sold to Phil Quinto from New Jersey. Was this the coupe that used sedan doors, and moved the rear of the body forward ? I know that the tops of the coupe and sedan doors are not the same, but when you are chopping the top you can rework the sedan door tops to fit the coupe body.

Grist Bros coupe was unique in a lot of ways (MEL, chop) but what was impressive to me was the "BIG SOUND".
I don't know how big the motor was, or if it was the huge collector, but it definitely was unique and akin to the
big sound of later mountain motors.

    Hello,

Ever since I took this film of a powerful, impressive 1941 Willys sedan, I have been searching all resources for the name, owner, motor, trans, builder and driver. Something to give it an identification for my Los Angeles college library resource folder files. I can’t place it in the files unknown, despite the outstanding film. They want names, etc for researching photos, films and historic facts. So, the search continues.
    upload_2023-4-4_3-50-13.png
Then one day I was researching some files and up pops this bit of information. “the wheelstanding 1941 Willys Chevy powered sedan…in 1964… 5 years later and a possible connection to this drag race. The race day advertisements were for an all out East vs West race day, with the biggest names in all of drag racing in the top fuel classes in attendance from all points in the USA.

But, perhaps, it could have been down in the Gas Coupe/Sedan Classes, too. The top Gas Coupes and Sedans from the Westcoast were also in attendance. including this record setting sedan from So Cal.

So, could this 1941 Willys sedan have gotten its start 5 years earlier in red primer paint to challenge the Westcoast racers, too?
    upload_2023-4-4_3-54-32.png

Anyone from the Midwest with some history in their drag racing family remember a red primer 41 Willys sedan from 1959, that may have ended up a green Willys sedan in 1964?

Thanks for your help… all documented information and photos will be given contributor’s credit in the final set of films, photos for one of the largest research library facilities online and on the Westcoast for all to see. Please PM (via HAMB Conversations) me ASAP. Thanks

@jnaki, I wonder if that sedan went on to become the Lutz and Lundberg sedan. Also a dark green and from Minnesota and it’s still around today.
