  2. In 1967 I traded $35 for a running and driving 55 Bel Air hardtop.

1961, Dad had just bought a new Ford Fordor Hardtop, I was ten years old. Spotted a '32 Ford grill insert hanging on a nail in a garage down the street, a 29 year old part at the time. I asked about the insert and Peter asked what I had to trade. We hoped on out bikes and rode over to my house. He spotted the front and rear floor mats Dad had left drying on some saw horses. Even swap, floor mats for the '32 insert. That night at dinner Dad asked how my day went. I said something about not asking his permission before the swap. He said the one piece mats were replaced with four individual mats since he didn't like the way the originals fit the center hump. He also told he he always wanted a '32 3Window. Insert is in the basement, in the 63 years I've had it I never finished a project it was destined to be placed on, but the Roadster may get it. Peter, the kid I swapped the mats for was the first person I ever knew that died, the tree still holds the scar from the crash. Parts may be parts but a lot of them hold memories, good & bad.

Actually the car was as reliable as an anvil! Until a deer tried to jump across the hood. I was going 55 at the time. Didn’t end well for the doe or the car. The dog is a Boxer Jack Russel terrorist mix.

  6. Can,t remember if it was my best trade but it worked well at the time. Traded four wheels with red-line tires similar to this pic for a drivable Honda S800 Sport Coupe that was on the back row of a fly by night car trader. This was 1974 in Australia.
