This is the perfect custom to me. All of the modifications just seem to fit the car and enhance it, not just a bunch of stuff added on just for points. Accents added from Plymouth, Pontiac, and who knows what else. Another car that is customized in the same great style is @Moriarity green car (sorry, don't know the name). Lots of thought and mechanical ability went into both.

My buddy saw a picture similar to this one. He said " None of the cars have big headlights " He owns a new cookie cutter 32. I even had to make him a bracket to mount ONE fog light like the other sheep. PS; Love this thread!

According to street view, that old thrifty trilon sign is still there, on the corner of La Brea and (now) Obama Blvd.

Only twenty years old, but a great gathering spot in So Cal for hot rod cruisers.

    Hello,

Having attended this event a couple of times many years ago, it was a new experience. It was like the old shows of the 60s to early 70s where folks just showed up with their hot rods and parked to enjoy the whole event. But a city street area was blocked off and the main street, Grand Avenue became home almost every month for different types of cars in attendance. They have expanded from pure hot rods to include other newer years/models, but the majority are older hot rods.

The event is freeway close as it is far inland from the So Cal coastline. But, any big freeway will have the connections to get to the event. Besides, who could not go to the city of the 1958 U.S. Nationals winner, Ted Cyr? We had seen the 1960 version of Cyr and Hopper’s hemi top eliminator cars for several years racing at Lion’s Dragstrip almost every weekend.

So, as a tribute, my wife and I attended a couple of the final night events in September for the best night of the whole series going all the way back to April or the start of the monthly events. The fuel burning FED race cars of the 1960s lighting up the dark night sky with the big quantities of nitro.

The last night of the events is a “Cackle fest”

The whole year’s worth of car shows, monthly, gets a blast off to prepare for next years’ line up of events and shows.

Friday, September 27th for the last night in this season of Cruisin’ Grand Escondido… NITRO NIGHT!

    Note:

It is not the biggest event of nitro burning racers firing up for everyone to see. That “Event” comes to So Cal in November presented by Steve Gibbs and company.

So, start off the season ending nitro event on Grand Avenue, Escondido and then check out the largest gathering of nitro burning racers gathered in So Cal at freeway close: Irwindale Dragstrip…YRMV

Maybe a bit newer that kept things going for decades but a great place and times, sadly no more.

Still one of my favorite shots, of a great Hot-Rod, driven by one of the coolest guys ever to build and own and drive one!
Gotta love the cool Nerf bar with the "B"
