Awesome man, I'd been following along on the other thread. I'm sure that video of you pulling away has got to be burnt into zombies mind. Glad he filmed it so we can see it as well.

I'll have to get with you sometime and copy those pics if ya don't mind.. Planing on putting a lot of pictures on the one wall of that garage bay. Be cool to add the progression pictures to it.

Thank you! Probably impossible to not enjoy it.

Thanks!! Glad to see that truck of yours out and going!

Thanks Rick. I'll have to bring it up to the show next year. Thanks again!

Thanks!! I'd like to go somewhere different when I get the time and I think bringing it out to the hill climb would be a good one to see.

Love that roadster! Kind of reminds me of mine (stance etc.) Enjoy it and think of the builder each time you take her out!

Great job on the poplar! What's the secret? I need to do that for part of my shop.

Take a wire wheel and stick it in a drill. I had to turn down a 5/8 bolt to get it in the 3/8 drill so it wasn't so heavy since I have a lot to do..

Follow the grain of the wood don't go back and forth across the board or it will leave zig zag lines when you stain it.

I'll have to look to be sure but using minwax cl***ic grey for a light first coat out on with a rag..(which it says not to do) let it sit for 5-10 minutes to dry off
    IMG_1481128499.360858.jpg

Then I think it's dark walnut stain.. Put on with a foam brush.. I'll double check when I get home to be sure.. But you could use any dark colored stain.. When it drys the grey kind of comes back through to lighten it up a bit.

Oh and don't sit to long in one spot with the wire brush lol.. Works good on hardwoods.. Something like pine it eats it up pretty quick and doesn't look right.

That is a great story, it is sad that the old gentleman p***ed on, but the car went to some one who'll really appreciate it and knew the man who built it. Good luck with it.

Also, after all the sanding/wire brushing, before you stain it take it out in the sun for an hour. All the green tones on the poplar will turn brown. I fake it for maple and cherry all the time.

Thanks for that info! I was talking to my dad about that when he came up to help..

I mentioned how the green was throwing it off a bit..

I will have to give that a try next time a get some and the sun is out.

  29. I read a thread here a couple of days ago, where a Hamber used vinegar with steel wool dissolved in it. wipe it on and it turned timber gray pretty quickly.
The more dissolved the steel wool was, the darker the stain.
He used it on the deck of his truck.

I had watched some videos on that.. Seem to work really well on oak.. Seemed to turn poplar kind of greyish Orange.. It would sure be easier then doing two stains lol..

I manage to get an old bench made up

While waiting on second coat to dry figured I would blow the dust off and do a quick clean on the car... He sure knew how to put paint on a car.

Hopefully this week get the back wall boards up and get started on the side walls
