  2. A guy in Victoria, B.C. bought a lil' John Buttera funny car in the early 80,s and used an injected big block chev in it , but was originally set up for a fuel hemi . I still remember what a beautiful chassis that car had, even with the old school strut front end. Rob.

Looks like something Boyd Coddington built...Too bad its about 60 years too customized...

  6. The earlier episodes were some of the best and most correct era specific TV ever produced. Every detail was spot on. The show had obviously already jumped the shark long before this episode was made. It may sound silly but I couldn't watch past the boy's passing around the Mason jar right there in the house. If you're a Walton’s fan and you think this was a bad episode, don't ever watch the reunion movie. They basically lifted the entire story line and shifted it forward 30 years, yuck! As usual though, the best character was good old Jim Bob in a suspiciously familiar red chopped '34 coupe. Okay, so we have established that I watched WAY too much TV growing up.

Well said and kind words for the departed Sir! Thanks for your service and the hell you fought against at Xray! Garry Owen! I did my time with the 5th BCT 1st Cav in south Baghdad 05-06 and my Dad was in the Cav in the pacific during WWII and the liberation of the PI and occupation of Japan! I'll be back from Iraq and finally get to retire in late March!

Oh dear god, I hate that I know this one but....It was a movie called BUGSEY MALONE that came out in '76 or '77 or so. I remember my little brother made me see it instead of what I wanted to see. (Har Mar mall, Roseville,MN.!) Thought all the pedal cars were cool though..... This thread makes me feel old for two reasons - I remember the Waltons on prime time t.v. (and yea, I thought it was lame), and that i don't consider John Buttera's car to be THAT old !

While we're on the Subject, Remember the A that Chip bought on "My Three Sons?" It was a stocker, and he felt bad buying it from the old man and decided not to make a Hot Rod out of it. The Dads cars were Pontiac Show cars, one was a Blown 63 Catalina with 4 Bucket Seats. X-11 or something like that. I remember it was found in the 80s, don't know if it was ever restored.

I used to watch the waltons every sunday lunchtime in the late 70's
repeats in the UK i guess.
I seem to remember Jimbob opened his own garage and had quite a few dealings with early Fords.

I also seem to remember his sisters

Robbie also rebuilt an old Ford, can't remember what it was, maybe a 34 Ford sedan? Chip also had a friend who had a "rod burner"

That was the worst Walton`s episode I ever saw.

Who were Half those people? Sure not the ones that were on the show as I remember it,except for some of the Walton Kids.

Even John boy was a knock-off.

The acting is awful in this one and the "Hot Rod" is an 80s street rod.

Must`ve been after the show jumped the shark......

I was laid up for over 6 months after knee surgery, so I watched 2 episodes a day on the Hallmark channel. I loved that show back in the day, and still do. After far as the non hot rod movie cars, there have been alot.......

Except for John-Boy the cast in that episode was all Waltons originals.

The 42-48 Plymouth Woodie Wagon driven by Jim-Bob's partner's Mom is a nice car too. Mopar wagons of that era stored the spare tire in a tub in the back of the front seat behind the driver covered with a snap-on vinyl cover matching the upholstery, and yes it did make the seat back some thicker.

there was another "Waltons" episode where they found a T body in the woods - built it into a hot rod - with a chrome tube axle - like they had money for that

Just occured to me...what a weird phenomenon. Good quality TV series' that began in the 70's but "survived" into the 80's SUCKED. Hard. Across the board. Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley (yeah, Laverne and Shirley), The Waltons, MASH, etc.. Big cast changes, total non adherence to era correctness, remaining cast members with entirely different personalities. Wow.
I seem to remember a Waltons episode that had an accurate JALOPY style hot rod...no?
The producers couldn't have purposely picked a less suitable hot rod.
