I drilled the backing plates last night. I used the template I drew up in CAD, cut out th template on the CNC plasma then tack welded it to the backing plate and drilled away.

All drilled...the template worked really well and sped up the drilling process a lot

  4. Man I wish I had one of those! What file formats can you use to program it?

The plasma is great! Save so much time cutting brackets and they come out perfect every time.

It uses G Code for the CNC. The program will convert .dxf files to G Code if you don't know how to write G Code.

  6. I do not, but I can totally do circles around DXF files. I was a CAD designer for years; I did Autocad and Pro-E. Now I use Illustrator primarily since I'm no longer a draftsman.

How did you hold the template in place while drilling all those holes? Tack weld. Nice work and you could sell those templates to guys like me.

I tack welded the template to the plate. I am thinking abut selling templates. There seems to be some interest in them.

  11. You might be better off using the bolt holes to locate the plate for a built to be sold unit. Attach some guide tubes to the plate and run bolts through. As long as the tubes aren't too long, they should keep the plate from wandering without having to be cut at a precise tolerance. A small gap should allow for tension and if the fasteners and tubing ID are a good match, it shouldn't be able to wander.

I started finishing on the quarter this week...

it was formed in 3 major sections so I started welding them together.. this is where it can go all wrong, luckilly it played nice

also, I made some dies for the beltline of the front of the quarter.. still tuning them before I run them.

awesome build. You guys with the talent to put cars together in months instead of years blow me away.

Either you have a ton of free time or you bust your ass, maybe both? Either way I'm impressed.

Come on Josh, tell 'em the truth- you retired at 30 after you made your first million, and just hang around drinking beer, eating pizza, and building totally cool stuff. They're just jealous!! A hot rod Mark Zuckerman for sure ( Ha-Ha) ----- NOTE: the above is a fabricated lie meant to provide a laugh to this hard working ( and playing) group known as the "TORR nados"). Watch out N.J.- there's a disturbance in the atmosphere headed your way. Don Kent
