I am 74yo, 6ft. tall, and weight 260 lbs. I wonder who else has to watch their weight so you can get in and out of your hotrod? Mine is a 26 Ford coupe with a 9in. top chop...…..
I'm 63, 5'8" and 170. My right foot rests on the trans tunnel to operate the spoon gas pedal and the T5 shifter is under my right knee. The roadster body is channeled 2" and it's barely 4' wide. Kinda limits the possibilities when it comes time to sell it. No one over 6' tall can drive it and it you've been a beer drinker most of your life......forget it!
Yeah. 6’4” and I wear an extra medium size T-shirt.. Not sure why I get all worked up over chopped As etc- cause I may as well try climbing into the cabinet beneath the kitchen sink as to fold up and enjoy cruising in one. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Happy for you. Please post a few Pics of your Rod, today I'm 5' 10'' 210# had a 29 HighBoy Roadster early 2000's and with the chopped top on it, was a "trick" to get in/out, I watch full size guys get in/out of their Rods and am amazed they can get in, Have seen some Big Boys in Very Small cars, often wonder how far they drive. Most of us inflate some with time, throw in age/arteritis equals larger cruiser cars for me.
I'm 6'4", 250 lbs. and still driving the Austin around. The OT MG is a little tight though. Once I'm in no problem but I do make some unearthly noises entering and exiting.
6.0 feet and 290! It is a squeeze getting in and out of my A roadster and I'm hoping it will provide me some motivation to knock of 50 or so!!
I have to watch my weight in order to be able to walk. Anything over 180 and my legs really give me problems. I am not very big around 5'9" or 5'10" and try to stay in the 170-180 range (which really isn't much of a struggle). My current project is a channeled Crosley sedan and getting in and out would be a pain in the butt for a Munchkin but it is what it is I suppose.
I usta laugh when my 6'5"..230+ son would climb in and drive his 65 Mustang. Seat ALL the way back.....seat back almost All the way back and still he had to put a tilt-steer lever on in place of the turn signal stalk! He managed, Just what you get usta I suppose!?! 6sally6
I watch my weight, it stays the same and I swear my t-bucket shrinks every year..ha ha I'm 5'10" and stay around 230#, bad back and left knee but I manage to put a few miles on it every year, power to weight is exceptionally nice and you quickly forget the tight confines. I much rather drive the 41 with doors than climb over the sides of that bucket. You know I noticed it a bit more difficult to get out of my Henry J since I raised the front higher, I used to swing my left leg over the diagonal bar, ball of my foot on ground and use it for leverage to get my butt up on the bar. Now my foot swings in space and I'm like an upside down turtle trying to figure it out, I'm hoping when I start driving it that I'll figure it out..ha ha
Henry Ford was 5'8" and thin as a rail, about 140 pounds. He hated fat people and it shows in the way he built his cars. K. T. Keller of Chrysler was over 6' tall and weighed 300 pounds and wouldn't approve a car for production unless he could get in and drive it with his hat on even the smallest Plymouth. This explains why Chrysler built cars were so tall well into the fifties, and why boys who eat double portions of Wheaties every morning should look at Chrysler products. Another hefty customer was George Mason of Nash 1937 - 1954. I would expect his cars to be roomy too.
Hey guys thanks for all the response and the history lesson. A lot of times when I get to where I am going it's either a burger joint or an ice cream shop...……………...hot rods look good in front of those places...…...
All I'm going to say is that during an annual checkup the other day I found out that I gained 13-1/2 lbs since last year on my allready too over fluffy bod. Too many hours Hambin as my wife calls it rather than being outside getting things done due to a foot issue I think I finally have under control. The snow is almost gone so maybe I'll shed a few of those back off in the next few weeks.
Foot problems are a bitch. I had lost about 25 lbs early last year, and then had an epic battle with plantar fasciitis late last year into January. Steroid injections in the bottom of your foot are unpleasant to say the least, but it has helped. Foot is still kind of tender and now trying to lose the 25 lbs I put back on during the time, and spring arrives today at 4:58 pm. Time to move around again. In fact I am sitting out here in the shop "Hambin" waiting for the lumber company to deliver the materials to get started on my 16 x 16 shop addition. Should have the floor built today.
Health problems always affect everything even the hotrods in the garage. I have battled back issues for 15 years, weight has crept up as activity has been slowed down, finally a doctor found my problem. Broke a vertebrae and it healed wrong all those years ago and here we are with it twisting and pinching nerves... So last year had to sell my hotrod model a sedan due to back issues and inability to drive it long distances, bought a coupe and had to sell it as the size wasn't friendly to my 6'3" 300 lb self, Mind you I'm built like a fridge, main problem is my shoulders are too damn wide for 28-29s fords. I will build another 30-31 tudor I think in due time hopefully if the back gets straight, if not I will stick to my 50s vehicles with more shoulder room etc. I have thought of trying to find a 32-34 tudor sedan, I have heard they have a bit more room in them than Model As. All this said I would love to build a roadster, but they are too damn short in length for my tall self... I have to be realistic about cars I buy due to my height and width....
If driving your rod is what keeps your weight down, that's as good a reason as any. We all need to watch our weight, just look around at any event, lots of people riding the fat scooters. Now don't flame me for that statement. The people who need the scooters for a disability are NOT the people I am talking about. At 69 I know a big part of staying healthy into old age is keeping our weight down.
Odd that in recent years I've cut about 30 beers a week out of my diet, no fast food and I gain weight. The past 10 days, I cut a lot of crap out like my morning buttered roll, no beer during the week, I allow myself 1 mixed drink M-F. I started at 265... got on the scale this morning... 272. I drive a '59 Ford and that was built for people around 5'9". I have the seat back as far as it goes and could stand it back another 2". I'm in the gym a few days a week to keep the strength up, my back is very wide, big lats and traps. When I drive in my buddy's Vette... the seat is quite uncomfortable. The oldest car I think I'd be comfy in is a '46 or so Ford or Chevy.
I'm reasonably young at 40 but was way over weight and decided enough was enough and have lost about 135lbs which makes everything easier and more comfortable. worth it to be able to comfortably fit in our old vehicles, I was struggling to get seat and steering wheel position sorted out in the Fargo to be reasonably comfortable and now its no problem. I am 6'2" cant help that part! No that’s not a typo, 135.
Seems like mid 30's Plymouths have a lot more room than a Ford. One of the reason's why a 33 Plymouth coupe is on my "someday" list.
If you want to lose weight eat fresh fruit and vegetables, you will lose a pound a day no matter how much you eat. No kidding, I have done this more than once and proved it. But you must be totally strict, no meat no bread no pop no booze no nothing just fresh fruit, vegetables and water. And lay off the starchy vegetables like potatoes, corn, beans and peas. So no lima beans but eat all the peaches and strawberries you want. After a week or 2 I find this impossible to stick to. So add some protein foods like meat, fish, chicken, cheese, eggs. Have some bacon with the eggs if you want, fat is less fattening than carbohydrates. I have gone on this way for months at a time and lost 40 to 80 pounds. As long as I stick to this diet I am ok but if I add 2 slices of bread instead of losing a pound I lose nothing. 1 slice of bread and I lose half a pound. What is going on? 2 slices of bread do not weigh a pound but this has been my experience. Don't believe me? The beauty of it is, you don't have to. It works whether you believe it or not. What have you got to lose? Nobody ever got sick from eating too many fruits and vegetables.
Had a surprise on my last checkup, high cholesterol. Doc said I could start on meds (statins) or try eating healthier for 2 months and see if that helps. Considering my diet was ham and eggs, cheeseburgers and steaks I chose the latter. So it's fruits and veggies, cottage cheese and nuts for awhile.
Dont understand why you have so much trouble , my standard size 23t has a Muncie 4-speed , car is channeled 3", I'm 6' -200 @ 71 years old and have no trouble at all , I've put 50k miles on in 17 years , you just get out every 1-1/2-2 hours ...
Last checkup 2 months ago, my cholesterol is perfect, BP meds were adjusted. I find bread to be the killer to putting the pounds on, beer is considered liquid bread, 1 slice = 1 beer. I limit my pizza to 1 slice every 2 weeks. I like fish and chicken, there are a zillion ways to cook chicken. I seem to get filled up quickly the past few years, so portions are getting smaller. I broke my Muncie last May, it was a struggle to pop that baby out with the excess weight I carry.
5'10", 195 lbs. Need to lose some weight regardless of whether I can get in my hot-rods or not. At 68 I just want to be around longer to enjoy them..........
You guys need to worry about that old ticker carrying that extra weight. Not that Hotrod. I too am 15 pounds overweight. Even with my skinny ass.
Pretty short sided of Henry not knowing that a bunch of fat old farts would be hot rodding his heaps around a century later.
