The "what'd you get done this weekend? post

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4t64rd, Jan 17, 2005.

  1. I'll start.

Even though I don't know what I'm doing, I started fabricating transmission mounts and motor mounts for the 302/AOD in the '52. Some people wanted to see it, so I took pictures along the way.

Thought I could use the plasma cutter so I cleaned the area that would needs to be cut out for the front lump in the 302s pan.

Plasma cutter needs new tip, so I had to use the fire wrench. I'll be reinforcing the crossmember later with 1/8" plate below the pan
    [IMG]

I wedged in the original 302 motormounts and put the engine back in (no pics, boring) and started to adapt the existing trans mount crossmember. Lincoln crossmember "vanished" since Friday( [IMG] [IMG]), so I cut the mount off a mid 80's Ford pickup crossmember, and made everthing pretty to weld later.

Trans has to sit lower in back than just on top of the crossmember, so I notched it and set the mounting plate in it, then tack welded it.

Then I hung it where it needs to go and made sure there was enough room for tie rod to clear the pan and the bellhousing,
    [IMG]

The end of the trans is only about 1/4" past the 3rd crossmember and an 1" off of it, it may need to be notched too, depends on the front U-joint size. Also the E-brake cable will hve to be re-engineered using the late model parts
    [IMG]

So there it sit's can anybody tell me if Edlebrock Performer SBF intakes have any angle to the carb pad? A reading off the valve covers show is at a 2 degree angle right now. Stock Lincoln rear dump exh. manifolds wil NOT work, they hit the steering box.

Investment so far in engine swap? $100 for donor car, $20 for Edelbrock carb, $14 for carb plate for linkage, $120 for intake and early valve covers, Exh. manifolds from HAMBer Hotwheel FREE! (I have to pay it forward, send me your needs [IMG]) = $254.

Still need Duraspark dizzy, but I have a plan to go to the pick-and-pull this week after work. Didja hear that Voodoo? [IMG]

In the process of installing a new bow type headliner in the coupe.
Thanks to you guys here for posting a tech on this. I will get to screw this up all by myself. [IMG]
This takes more patience than body work.......
I found a whole mouse nest up there. No wonder my wife didn't like the smell of the inside of the 37. [IMG]

  9. The Raven and KC****o came over and we got the Pusher a little closer to lighting off. Dizzy in place, new plug wires run and headers bolted in place. Ravin made up a new cross member/****** mount.
Doesn't sound like much but I'm a little under the weather so I probably wasn't much help.

    Thanks Guys [IMG]

  10. Got a few hours of pinstriping practice in, then shovelled snow. Then shovelled again [IMG]

I got my heater back together after bead blasting it, painting it and putting in the new 12 volt motor. It's all back together and the new motor works like a champ.

My Dad's friend Tony stopped by and brought by my 11 inch front disk brakes and also surpised me with a nifty 12 volt wolf whistle that we hooked up to a power supply and amused ourselves with.

I also stripped the frame rails in the engine compartment so I can repaint them.

We got the transmission bolted up to the engine and lowered into the car so we can start mocking everything up. My dad started fabricating motor mounts.

I also got to do some welding, I welded a bracket to bolt to the engine so we could get it hanging evenly on the hoist. The bracket worked great!

Now for my "Stupid Welding Moment". The first few times I used the helmet and the "auto-darkening" kicked in, I thought the welder was making the garage lights go off when I pulled the trigger! hahahaa I'm such a ****!

Here's some pics of our exciting day at the ****** garage...
How hard is it to screw up a crossmember like this?
    For me, not too hard...
Four out of five holes drilled were right, at least.

Mrs. buzzard helped me clean out the garage. She is a cleaning freak of nature. You could barely walk around in our 2 car garage. Now theres plenty of room. Maybe enough for a motorbike!

Well Let's see, I got har***ed by some Florida Fruits (How the hell'd they get my cell number!?!) to start the weekend. Then I got my armpit tattooed... and then I repainted my bathroom! (Painting a room and ceiling with a freshly tattooed armpit is FUN! [IMG])

I pulled all the valves out of my flatty. Now I just have to get the cam out and order some more parts. Hope to having the former stocker running again with 3/4 cam, heads and dual carbs in another month or so. Also s****ed some gunk off the engine so I can paint it.

Saturday- Big E swap meet in Springfield. Almost spent a pile of money, but thought better of it. Sunday- Two hours of wire brushing the mouse **** and old glue off the underside of the roof of the truck, then slapped the rust proof paint to it. My POS garage finally dried out, so I also sanded down all the rust spots that had appeared under the roof leaks and reprimed them. I can't get this truck painted fast enough.

  20. R&D on a couple of Nailhead intakes.
    Started another He**** project (If I could explain it.....I would....but I can't.....so I won't).

  22. I finished the mud work on the rear fenders for the 46 woody. Some of the roughest fenders I've ever saved. I'm on the down hill side of this project now. Good thing, I've had about enough of this car, I'm ready to move on to the COE.

Watched Pittsburg struggle and the Patriots make Peyton Manning look like a high schooler.

Other than that I set up a sandblast cabinet, parts washer, and a super silent compressor in the ba*****t at home. It will save me staying late or special trips to the shop for little things.

Got my sons dirt bike up into a spare room so he can do an engine rebuild (2001 CR250R). Got the wife freaked out in the process, comes with the territory![IMG]

I'm new to this site so I thought I would join right in...Last weekend I finally got my straight axle under the mustang and went cruising around. Motor isnt ready to look for trouble yet. I helped pull the motor out of my buddies VW Sat day and next week I am going to get my girlfriends 54 Chevy.

I inherited a wooden table on wheels from the previous home owner. It was 8 ft. long by 3ft.wide. Unfortunately he was a very tall man and I am on the short side of average. My elbows could barely rest on the top of the table when I was standing next to it. This weekend I finally took the sawsall to the table. Cut it in half. Shortened the legs by about 2 ft. I put heavy duty wheels under it and beefed it up a bit with some braces. I Mounted my vice on one corner so I can wail on something if said exercise is called for. It makes the garage look bigger and I actually have a useful table instead of a mobile **** stacking appliance. [IMG]
