Well, I have moved alot of iron over the last year, some long term attachments, some short term, but I have had an itch for a full build. Knowing that space requirements here in my garage are the limiting factor, I would love a 60 Caddy but its just too dang big to build in my garage. So I went through a list of other vehicles I would like to own. I have an inspiration folder on my computer, It has a few vehicles that have spoken to me through the years.

I had just sold the Buick, and regretted it almost day 1 of it being gone. I was on the search though for the full build. I found a 36 Tudor slant back in Tulsa area pretty cheap. I was thinking it was close to what I wanted, and affordable. So I hit up a buddy up there, asked if he could pick it up to hold it for me till I could make the trip up there due to my insane work schedule lately. He said he had a better deal, a 36 5 window for a few more bucks. That peaked my interest for sure. Some photos later and some discussion a deal was made.

I had never thought much on a 35/36 car, I had always been a 40 ford guy for the iconic parts of it, but in realizing the bodies are very similar through the years, and its a bigger car dimensionally on the interior width wise, I was thinking this could be a good fit. I guess I overlooked these cars mainly due to everyone tail dragging them with skirts. Its cool but Im not a skirts guy on these.

So I flipped some more iron in between the buick and this project. I bought and sold a 51 Caddy 2dr HT, Mini cooper, and a 60 C10 Apache SWB fleetside. All this flipping paid for the car orig purchase price. So that was nice.

So onto the fun and what you are here for. Pictures!!!!

Here is the empty room in the garage. I had though I would have filled this spot with another model A hence why I have been holding on to those 17" wheels.

    IMG_8644.jpg

So the East side of Oklahoma is very hilly and pretty, I dont know if you have ever spent much time through there, its nice. Roads kinda suck in alot of areas, but its nice.

    IMG_8667.jpg

So here is the Car all laid out and alot of parts and Pieces. Thanks @chaddilac for the hospitality and deal.
    IMG_8678.jpg

Alot of assembly required. And alot of welding. Thankfully I had bought a new welder last year and now have a good project to run a spool or 2 through.

Its been a long time since I road tripped by myself for one, but it was kinda nice. No timelines, just do what I want and enjoying that coffee along the way.

    IMG_8682.jpg

So bedded down for the night as this was 500 miles each way, I don't have a 1k day in me anymore sadly, but smart enough to know my limitations. Had dinner and went to bed, but here she is on the trailer. The truck was loaded down with the bed completely full.

    IMG_8682.jpg

Next morning I was on the road early, bad night sleep at hotel. Got treated to a nice Lightning storm on the ride home, and once I hit the state line, I got this beautiful shot of the sun coming up.

    IMG_8692.jpg

So from here it was another 5 hrs to get home.

    IMG_8707.jpg

So there is some weird rust on the drivers door, I am sure the body was rolled off the orig chassis to that side where the door held water to rust out the top like that. I am addressing structural stuff at the moment. Rust repair for the rest of the car may come at a later date. Some repairs are already under way at 1 day in.

    IMG_8701.jpg IMG_8702.jpg IMG_8703.jpg IMG_8704.jpg IMG_8705.jpg IMG_8706.jpg

So I was torn on sharing this thing at this early of a point but figured why not.

I have ole smokey that came out of the 34 Tudor, I have been building on here and there for a power plant. I have a t5 or a 38 toploader, still trying to decide on this, But really leaning to the t5 for ultimate drivability and freeway flying.

Stay tuned and hopefully you didn't fall asleep with all my paragraphs.

  10. Okay, vehicle, check, build plan, check, engine, pending, rear axle, pending, paint, it’ll buff out, mufflers?!?, you don’t need no stinking mufflers, interior, pending, approval from da boss, double check, insanity defense in case it all goes wrong, check. Carry on.

That is a super solid little car. The door rust is weird, but doors aren't terribly hard to find and I'm sure you could use just the top of a sedan door if you want. Hit up KB Cookout, he always seems to have some nice '36 scraps.

Keep coming with the pics, I love that car already.

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to seeing what this turns out like.

I decided last night to start on this area for the B pillar and floor tie in. There was not much there at all, but I will be doing it alot like it was orig done with sandwich of steel in this area. So I added this 16 gauge piece so I can add 16 gauge floor structure under it, and weld it all together. Should turn out fine, I am not aiming for stock looking perfection. This is structural repairs much needed to move on.

    Before!!!

Once-Upon-A-Time... (1966) this coupe was mine... "Junior" , the driver is now 60 years old.
I needed 500$ necessary to buy a racing boat and motor, and that's what I was paid by the new owner! :D:rolleyes: 1936 Ford Waldron Rd.jpg

I'm in. I scratched my itch recently and got a '40 coupe, but I didn't have the balls to go for a full-on restoration project like you have. Good luck with it and keep the updates coming. LT

I’m looking forward to seeing you filling in the voids in the sheet metal and making it whole.

Well, I needed a break from structural so I decided to cut out the other bad part on the floor. Welded in some new 18 gauge. I didn't want to buy in a full sheet so I'm doing piece work right now.

    What was removed.... IMG_8716.jpg

    IMG_8717.jpg
    IMG_8715.jpg

Welded in, and started some 18 gauge work on the Bluetooth B pillar support.

    IMG_8718.jpg

And here it is, 16 gauge structural parts, some spot welds, seam butt welds, and some sandwich just better than stock. Added some 3/8 bar stock to bring through the raised lip that is present behind the pillar, May do the same on the other side, Its mainly a stiffening piece installed earlier and Figured might as well leave it.

    IMG_8721.jpg

With that said, I have to do the same treatment to the A pillar on this side as well. The other 2 on the other side, they are in alot better shape but will get some extra steel added to strengthen them up a bit more.

Man, I get it paying for the fun with em. Good looking car for sure!

Thanks LT, yeah I this is a bit more than I really wanted to take on rust wise, but compared to alot of stuff out there, this one is better than most. Guess I got spoiled on the last couple where structurally they were amazing. Few little spots if any.

I question my sanity some days! :D
