Ok, I just read this whole thread. First I should state that I teach high school in Colorado. Yeah I actually care about my kids. Honestly it's a mixed bag with this generation. I have awesome kids, like the girl who is going into hospice in her spare time to record the stories people have and then publish a book and give the profits back to hospice, or the kid with enough sense to drive a 49 Merc, and I have lots of idiots as well. The factor that separates the good from the bad; and it crosses all lines of race, gender and socioeconomic status, is that good kids have involved parents. I don't mean buying kids crap, but holding them accountable. Kids will always think of themselves as invincible, and they will always exaggerate and talk shit. It's not their fault, very few of them have common sense, there are some that do that is why I qualified it. The media hypes up these images that kids feel they have to live up to or they are inadequate. Look at Fast and the Facetious and EMpTy-V. I have kids who will try to convince their parents to buy them a GSX or a Hyabusa (sp?) motorcycle without ever having been on a bike. You have to sit them down and say listen, have you even taken a riding safety class? I like you and I'd hate to see you dead, and believe me, that bike will kill you. Some parents just buy their kids crap in order to make them feel loved. That is why we had a kid show up at our car show with a Bentley Continental GT. That is a lot of car for a 16 year old to be drivin. I have involved parents and I have the ones who try to get their kids to pass even though they have skipped incessantly and have a 10%. They make excuses and bail the kids out, as a teacher my hands are tied. It's rough to hold them accountable when their parents are calling the shots and I live in fear of being sued. I feel that as a society we are getting weaker by coddling all of these kids. The ones that don't understand right from wrong. There is a sense of entitlement out there with much of this generation. We recently had kids dress up in a gorilla costume and rush the counter at the 7-11 screaming. The parents thought it was funny til the police officer pointed out that the kids were lucky the clerk did not have a gun. He said, if it had been him, he would have killed at least two of them and would have been in his legal rights to do so, then the parents got serious. I have kids who brag about stealing and all of that right in front of teachers. I spend hours every day tracking down kids and trying to get them to do their work to pass, it's insane. In the end good parenting is the key. An obnoxious action when Billy is 3 is not so funny when Billy is 16. The parents who raise their kids and actively participate, those kids will turn out fine. Yeah we have ricers here and all that and they bug the hell outta me; nothing steams me like the kid in the primered civic who tells me that his 95 civic is old school because it's in primer. But hey, they are stupid kids and no one has taught them better. They never had a father or an uncle or a brother who taught them that big wings on the back of a front wheel drive car are useless. All they know is the Fast and the Facetious. My kid with the Merc tries to explain it to them all the time when the kids dog on my 51. He tells them it starts just as good as their hondas and then tries to explain the cool factor to them of driving an old vehicle. Maybe those kids just need a ride in a flathead hot rod to really appreciate what they are missin.
thank you mike 1951 for trying your best despite what you have to put up with, not everyone has given up. i appreciate all teachers and what they have to deal with in this day and age. the entire world has gone nuts.
That is funny, I would be dead! But if the members of the H.A.M.B. where left to run the world, I think we would be OK. There are some pretty smart guys and gals on here, we would just have some real ugly babies.
is there something in the air that is causing kids to be born without brains today? i was just watching most shocking,and two kids tried to rob,get this,a police station!! actually went in there and demanded money at the window. she told them to wait(which they did) while she got the money,then went back and told all these cops what was going on. next thing you know,there are about twenty cops swarming out on these kids. who knows,maby they flunked reading and couldn't read the big POLICE above the door. the scary thing is it seems there are more and more of them all the time. maby it's the video games they watch twenty hours a day.

Thats been siad abuot evry generatun. Populasion has doubled & more telivised, etc., as well. To many poeple overlook the good and concintrate on the negetive. The same poeple bitch about spelling on websites as wel. Probably bitch abuot misspelling in books & mags too. Deosn't bother me so muck though. Unforetunatly poeple who write full pages without paragraphes get skipped over by me. Just too cluttered and although I'm probably missing informative stuff, I just can't read it. If you were able to read this, then spelling isn't that important. Just remember the world is still spinning, the sun is shining somewhere and there's yet another generation being born as we speak. Kids will be kids................
na,this generation is definetly more stupid, when i was a kid,we actually did things like read books,and not because we had to. we did it because we wanted to, now a days all kids want to do is sit in front of the tv,the computer, or play video games. there are some exceptions,but sadly not many. lets hope all these bright young men, who return from this stupid war, inspire youth to a higher standard. it happened after world war 2,and it can happen again. i know a lot of these guys will appreciate this country more after having been under fire for it. that type of enthusiasm can be spread. a lot of people have gotten so complacent about what they have here,that they forget how good they have it. a lot of young people spend all their time sitting on the couch eating crap,and getting fat. no wonder they can't think anymore. i was brought up to use my mind, i got to take things apart, and build things and use tools,got to have books around me,and people willing to take the time to explain things to me. kids nowadays, they don't do things like that,well most of them anyway. want to inspire a kid,give him a box of junk to take apart at a young age, give him some tools,let him use his mind,and throw the dam video x box cube 2050 or whatever it is,out the dam window,cut the tv cable or set it to channels that make him think.
I was there in the 60s-70s.....There were plenty of retards back then too........If anything, the kids today are smarter...They sure know what their rights are.......and they may have smarter mouths.....but, in general.....kids is kids......there are good and bad, smart and dumb. If anything, their parents are dumber for not giving them the values that they should have.
