But if you take the squeezer off you take off about half the HP. Never mind how many main bearings. Both did well one just did better.

It is hard to compair a flathead combustion chamber to an OHV chamber. And the work that goes on in there. Anyway this thread began with Bluto anouncing Donnie had the fastest Vintage motor. Actually Ron's record is faster. They both did good. Which did better?

Both did better that most of us will ever do. So kudos to anybody doin over 250 mph with anything vintage.
Yes money helps, but Time and dedicating are what really makes it happen.
    Personalities aside.

Bobby, you didn't do too bad with an old engine either.

Having over 20 years experience building Winston Cup style engines,NHRA Pro Stock and most all 21st century state of the art technology that I have been exposed too. I think the Flathead of Ron Main's is by far the greater accomplishment of the two engines. The Flathead is no doubt, prehistoric in comparison to the 12 port head of the six cylinder. That just goes to show what happens when you apply 21st century thinking to these vintage engines. Good job to both guys, they each acheived fantastic results using two different methods.

A 12 port head is only "vintage" because of the way the rules are written.
If it were a new engine it would be heads-up against the most modern OHV cross-flow engines like the Aussie Ford.

It is a Vintage engine because it is a 4 main bearing engine. That is why the later 250-292 series Chevy 6 with 7 mains is not legal. The cl*** is for engines that were made before 1959 and exclueds OHV V8 engines. It's a neet cl*** because it promotes inovation which can be seen on both Rod and Don's cars. Not much out of the Summit catolog

Hell ! Don went 96 or 97 with a ported stock head. I asked him what was the nitro percentage and he said that the only alky in the car was the stuff they couldn't get out!! Pour in the can, the label and make some noise!! And all of this with just 4 main bearings.
