Technical Thermostat housing sealant, what works?

The "wire wheel".....gotta be the wire wheel !!!!!
If its a FoMoCo use the blue RTV.........if a shivel-lay use the black. RTV
NO gasket...let it start to skim over before tightening. Don't try to 'wring-it-off' just tighten gently and watch for leaks.
The spray black paint sounds the most promising when using a gasket.

What you seem to be missing is that this is a discussion forum, these threads tend to take on a life of their own and often involve a lot of discussion not pertinent to the original post. Trying to micro manage the discussion doesn't work very well. Also, these threads last a long time, and other people with similar problems can find them via an internet search, and even if a particular post doesn't help you, it just may help somebody else down the line. It isn't all about you...
