Good grief! I started this so thought I'd better step in. I'll wash my shoes later.[emoji3]
First I appreciate all the replies but didn't want to start a big argument.
Bottom line I'm only going to drill in a Stant, or a quality stat, only on our old (non computer) cars.
It's a simple safety feature that will still allow some flow if it sticks shut. I'm not concerned with heater not putting out enough heat nor the possibility of coolant not reaching as high as it otherwise would.
    Thanks!

  2. Nooooooo !
You started this with drilling some kind of (aka BS) about 3/8" holes and not just one but 3 of them

Then asked for thoughts on it.
Exactly what you asked for is here.

I meant 3 (three) 1/8" holes...my fingers got all twisted up, writing too fast.

  4. I'm in a mood and that's not your fault or problem.
And you're full of it, no need to clean your shoes off. Start on the inside.
You started this thread off with 3 holes at 3/8" - noooo fat fingers there because 8 posts later you changed your mind,,, not your fat fingers post.
Then post that BS at the top of this page . This is the Internet and you rocked it :p:D

Why would you want to pick a fight with me?
Ok... I said 3/8" instead of 1/8". Have you ever made a mistake in your life? Good grief man, I know you're in a mood but don't take it out on me!
Drill 3...that's THREE 1/8...that's one-eighths of an inch holes.
Now is everything ok? Do you need a hug?[emoji6]

  6. Fine .Drill away.. Not going to do jack s*** if your t-stat sticks closed ..except maybe buy you 20 seconds to pull over to the side of the road...Then call AAA

Well then...we're back to drilling three 3/16" holes, so when it sticks closed it buys you 20 MINUTES to make it home...Then call AA

  8. For a while I was kind of really interested in you not causing yourself more trouble and more engine damage.

**** it man, shoot me your address and I'll send you some holes. I'll send you enough holes you can do everyone's car on your whole street.
Once you become famous for your great idea I'll just charge you a little bit for the holes I send.

  9. And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall

Thanks Engine Man and 31 Vicky. Guess everything I was taught wasn't true. You both backed what you said with evidence so I'll have to go re-educate myself. They must have covered that in the semester of physics I didn't take.

I always test a new t-stat by hanging it off a rod with a piece of wire in a pan of water on the propane grill . Using a candy thermometer to check the temp when it opens. Mom gets upset if I use antifreeze instead of water . Makes her candy confections taste funny.
