I was not aware that the internal byp*** p***age was no longer there. Used my Google-Fu to find this discussion on the subject: https://www.trifive.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-59036.html Excerpt... "Engines with thermostats don't allow any water to move in the front of the intake if you don't run a byp***. The water gets very hot in the heads during warm up and since the water is not moving, the heads just keep getting hotter and hotter until enough heat wicks up to the front of the intake/thermostat and allows it to open. Thermostats open and close during engine operation and what will happen is that the temperatures in the heads will swing wildly and not as well controlled as it will if you DO run a byp***. The internal byp*** in the older blocks is only on one side because that is all you need to let the water move. I can tell you I have fixed MANY Vortech headed engines that have radical temp swings by adding a byp*** to the front of the intake. It took me a while to figure out why that works but I know it has in more cases then I can count." I'm guessing there is no way to drill the byp*** p***age into the newer blocks? That would be the cleanest fix as long as you are using a water pump that has the p***age as there would be no need for the external hose.
The hole would have to be machined in the front of the block and it the head surface. Lots of guys will tell you its not necessary, and to just drill a couple holes in the T stat. But for me the by p*** just like is used in a big block chevy is the only thing that worked for me.
